Mulligan's Last Minute Tally Lifts Knights Over Quinnipiac

Junior Brittany Mulligan's third goal of the season couldn't have come at a better time. She scored the game-winner with 44 seconds remaining in overtime Friday night against Quinnipiac.

Hamden, CT - Just three weeks ago, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey twice lost one-goal leads and eventually succumbed to Quinnipiac in overtime. Friday night the Golden Knights returned the favor, rallying from a two-goal deficit after 40 minutes to take a 3-2 overtime victory against the Bobcats at the TD Bank Sports Center.

The Golden Knights inched over .500 in ECAC Hockey, moving to 7-6-1 in the league standings and improving to 10-13-1 overall. The 10th-ranked Bobcats fell to 16-9-1 and 8-7. Clarkson looks to exact more revenge on Saturday when it faces Princeton University.

Following a scoreless first period, Quinnipiac scored twice on special teams in a span of less than three minutes. Brittany Lyons tallied a power-play goal with just 20 seconds left in the extra-skater frame at 9:04. Freshman Kelly Babstock then added a short-handed goal at 12:41, this time with 26 seconds left in Clarkson's power-play chance.

Though the Knights trailed by two after the first two periods, the game was played evenly, with the Bobcats holding only a two shot edge (16-14) over the Knights. In the third period, Clarkson topped its two-period total with 16 shots, making two of those attempts count with a pair of goals. Sophomore Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) picked up her eighth goal of the year at 7:37, with assists going to classmates Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) and Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE). Skirrow then added her ninth goal of the campaign with only 1:33 remaining in the contest, finishing off assists from junior Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) and freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) to tie the game 2-2.

The two teams appeared headed for a tie when junior Brittany Mulligan (London, ONT) scored her third goal of the season with just 44 seconds remaining to complete the comeback. Tendler and Skirrow each assisted. It marked the third time in the past five games that Clarkson scored the game-winning goal in extra time.

The Knights have now won four of their last five league contests after suffering through a six-game winless streak in ECAC Hockey games.

Freshman goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) made 26 saves, including 12 in the final 24:16. Quinnipiac's Victoria Vigilanti had 30 stops.
