For the fourth time this season, the Clarkson University Volleyball team defeated Potsdam State, but Tuesday night’s match on the Bears' home court, required the Golden Knights to go the limit. Clarkson needed all five games against Potsdam in their fourth meeting of the season with the Green and Gold pulling out a narrow 3-2 win.
Clarkson and Potsdam split the first four games on Tuesday. The Knights won the first, 30-23, lost the second, 28-30, won the third, 30-26, and dropped the fourth, 22-30. The Knights prevailed in the deciding fifth game with a 16-14 victory to improve their overall record to 17-11.
"Credit Potsdam for pushing us to the limit on their senior night," stated head coach Johan Dulfer. "We knew coming in that it would be an emotional game for them and they would come out strong. After winning game one, I think we let down our intensity level a bit and gave them a life line. In the end, it came down to us playing the big points well. In terms of maturity this is something we have learned over the course of the season."
Sophomore Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY) led the way in the victory with 37 assists and seven kills. Freshman Jessica Agnew (Queensbury, NY) recorded 16 kills and 13 digs, while junior Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) posted 17 kills. Freshman Amanda Rankin (Horseheads, NY) enjoyed a solid all-around match with 14 digs and 22 assists.
Liberty League co-Rookie of the Week, Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) produced 16 digs, and sophomore Davanna Chetney (Fulton, NY) added 15 digs.
Junior Stacy Storms (Marcy, NY) and sophomore MacKenzie Cook (Syracuse, NY) recorded eight kills apiece.
Clarkson is back in action at the Skidmore Tournament this weekend.
