KNIGHTS FALL TO UNBEATEN OSWEGO

January 6, 2004

Oswego, NY - Junior forward Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) scored 14 points in his second game back from injury for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, but his effort was not enough as the Golden Knights dropped a 74-52 decision to unbeaten Oswego State Thursday night.

Clarkson had a modest two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 4-7 while the Lakers, who never trailed through the contest, moved to 9-0.

Clarkson fell victim to 21 turnovers and poor shooting in the second half. After matching Oswego's first-half field goal percentage output (41 percent), the Knights struggled in the second 20 minutes at 28.6 percent from the floor. Vitallo shot 5-for-10 from the floor in 19 minutes for his team-high 14 points. Sophomore forward Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Chet Truskowski (Hammond, NY) added a solid effort with seven points, six rebounds and four steals.

Clarkson ended the non-conference schedule on Thursday and will host Hamilton and Hobart next weekend when they open up Liberty League conference play.
