Three straight playoff appearances and a national-ranking in the middle of the 2023 campaign were the highlights for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team over the past few seasons, but with a large portion of contributors having graduated in May, the Golden Knights are looking to reload and continue their upward trajectory in the Liberty League this fall.

Guided by seventh-year head coach Zac Shaw and first-year assistant Aida Kardovic, the Green and Gold open the 2025 season with a strong opponent in University of Hartford this Sunday.

The Golden Knights lost several key members of the team, including forward Chloe Hodge, who finished second in program history in career points and was a three-time all-star, Maddie Lopol, an all-star in her first season as a transfer to Clarkson, two-time all-star Arin Bates, and Emily Davis, an all-star and one of only three players in program history to participate in 70 games, as the only one to start all of them. Additionally, the Knights will have to replace four-time all-star goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio, who played 92.1% of the minutes between the posts over the last four years and holds numerous Clarkson records for the net minders.

Hoping to fill the spot for DiCaprio this fall are sophomore Isabelle Wood and junior Kenzie Roth. Wood showed ample promise in her first collegiate season, helping the Knights to a 1-1 tie against Cortland State when DiCaprio was absent from the team and also holding SUNY Canton scoreless for close to 30 minutes in her collegiate debut. Roth was on the team briefly two years ago and is back to provide some depth and compete for minutes as well.

While Clarkson may need to fill the positions of departed graduates, the team still has plenty of experience at all positions. On defense, Julia Tylar has been a starter since her first collegiate season and has regularly ranked as one of the leaders in minutes played in the past three seasons. Sophomore Alina Krdzic was well on her way to ranking among the leaders in minutes last season before she missed the last few games due to injury. Division I graduate transfer Ella Johnson comes from FDU and could also see some minutes on defense. Rachael Matthews will also seek a larger role this year while first-year collegian Kayla Zehr has shown plenty of athleticism to see ample minutes.

Although listed for defense and midfield on the roster, Brooke Butler is one of the top returning scorers from a year ago, having scored nine points on four goals and an assist a season ago. Similarly, Callie Abel will play more as facilitator this season on the outside, a season after producing nine points with four goals and one assist in 2024.

The midfield has plenty of returners as well, including plenty of scoring potential. Lillian Gillett produced four points on a goal and two assists a year ago, pushing her career total to 25 points (10 goals, five assists). Emily LeBlanc and Riley Irvin have played consistently in their time with the Knights, while Aurora Zary and Jamie Dahlgard should see their minutes jump in season two at Clarkson. First-year collegian Aviana Johnson is expected to see significant time right away, while other first-years Sarah Krayeske and Lauren Osborne have shown well in preseason contests as well.

The forward spot will definitely miss Chloe Hodge as she was often a focal point of opposing defenses, but Paige Ford and Brooke Everest have produced in their time with the Knights. Ford was primarily a defender prior to a late switch last season where she showed a knack for getting to the ball off corners, making her a tough mark. Everest scored three goals in her first collegiate season and can be crafty in the middle of the field. Division II junior transfer Mallory Morrill and first-year collegians Rachel McMonagle and Gabrielle Cyganik will also look to add to the team's offense.
