Figliolino Slugs Third Homer of Season in Knights' 11-7 Loss to Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY – Seven runs were scored in the late innings by the Clarkson University Baseball team, but that last ditch effort wasn't enough for a comeback as the Golden Knights fell 11-7 to Plattsburgh State Monday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dipped back below .500 at 9-10 overall while the Cardinals edged up to 6-9. Clarkson has a four-game weekend ahead with two games against Oswego State on Friday and two more versus Vassar College on Saturday.

Plattsburgh got on the board in the first thanks to a Kyle Cremin RBI double, but the biggest run production came in the fourth when the Cardinals plated eight runs. A fielder's choice with the bases loaded pushed the first run across for the Cardinals and Adam Wein reached on a walk to force home another run to make it 3-0. Joey DiRocco then drove in two with a single to right and Austin Caldwell drove in two more with a single near the same spot for a 7-0 tally. Colin Ross and Aidan Diltz each singled in runs to finish off the fourth-inning rally. Cremin then doubled in two in the fifth to put the Cardinals up 11-0 at the halfway point of the contest.

Clarkson got back into the game in the top of the seventh, pushing four runs across. Two came home on an error with Joe Figliolino and Beau Vardion scoring to make it 11-2. Cam Jerrett then followed with a two-run single, pushing the score to 11-4. The next inning, Clarkson enjoyed some two-out magic, scoring three more times. Beau Vardion ripped a one-out double to left center and then advanced to third on Aidan McGuire's two-out single. Figliolino then hit his third home run of the season, clearing the left field fence, making it 11-7.

Figliolino finished 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and two more scored. CJ Cartier, Beau Vardion, and Will Roda each delivered two hits for the Knights.
