Potsdam, NY – An 11-run fourth inning, with all of the runs scoring with two outs, catapulted the Clarkson University Softball team to an abbreviated win as the Golden Knights downed SUNY Canton 14-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Scott Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-9 on the year, while the Kangaroos fell to 0-11. Due to a pitching shortage for Canton (injuries), the second scheduled game of the doubleheader was played as a scrimmage.

Clarkson struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning with two coming across rather quickly. Kaya Johnson doubled to left center and immediately scored on a triple to the same spot by Elissa Uveino. A sacrifice fly from Zoey Kovach plated Uveino and gave the Knights an early 2-0 lead. Clarkson tacked on another run as Isabel Haspil singled and then moved all the way to third on a bobble in the outfield. That allowed Lexi Rydelek's infield single to score Haspil for the third run of the inning.

The Knights put runners on in the second and third, but came up empty. However, Clarkson more than made up for that shortfall of runs with 11 in the fourth. With one out, Emma Sabourin walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but a grounder to the pitcher had her hold at third with two outs. Clarkson then began to string some hits together to put the game away. Uveino singled to center to make it 4-0 and she came around on a double by Kovach. Devin Fitzpatrick singled to put runners on the corners, and Haspil drove in the Knights sixth run with a double. Elizabeth Greco laced a single to center to plate two more. After a walk, Clarkson sent seven straight pinch-hitters to the plate and most kept the line moving. Karyssa Parker singled to load the bases and Shaelee Torres reached on an error, allowing two more runs to score. Maddie Throumoulos singled in another run, Genevieve Mucitelli singled in one more, and Emily Bulone then delivered a hit to left to plate yet another run. Lily Corrice closed out the scoring thanks to a single up the middle to score Mucitelli, the Knights 14th run of the contest.

Twelve different players had a hit for Clarkson with Johnson, Uveino, Fitzpatrick, and Haspil each picking up two base knocks. Bella Hotchkiss tossed the first two innings and struck out two while Amanda Corrice threw the next two innings and also had a pair of strikeouts. Lily Corrice and Devin Fitzpatrick combined to throw the final inning of the game to close things out.
