Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Barnum Sets Single-Season Goals Mark, Knights Run Past Skidmore, 14-10

Potsdam, NY – A strong third quarter saw the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team claim its first lead of the game, which it would never relinquish, as the Golden Knights beat Skidmore College 14-10 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 9-6 on the year and 3-5 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore fell to 6-9 and 3-6. Clarkson has two games next week to help clinch a playoff spot, facing St. Lawrence University on Wednesday and then Rensselaer on Saturday.

In the first quarter, Clarkson slipped behind Skidmore as the Thoroughbreds scored twice in the final two minutes of the period to take an early 4-2 lead. The Knights battled back to tie the game on a couple of occasions in the second, but Lily Schwartzman's goal in the final 90 seconds put Skidmore up by one at the break.

With renewed energy out of its locker room break, Madelynn Barnum was a force in the third quarter, tying the game less than two minutes into the second half and then putting the Knights up for good six minutes later. Overall, Barnum scored four straight goals for Clarkson in the third to give the Knights a 9-6 advantage, and that lead swelled to four when Lauren McCorry scored in the final three minutes.

Though the game was far from decided, the Green and Gold began to pull away in the first few minutes of the fourth thanks to goals from Barnum and Brooklynne Perrigo. A second goal in the final period from Perrigo with 3:12 remaining all but put the game away as the Knights then led by six goals. Jillian Lockwood scored twice in quick succession to make things interesting, but the Knights had enough on the defensive end to hold on.

The team stats showed an even game, with neither team holding a significant advantage in any particular category. Riley Donovan, however, was strong in the Clarkson crease, making 11 saves.

Barnum scored seven points on six goals and an assist to push her to 79 points on the year, setting a new program mark for goals in the process with 67, one better than her total from a year ago. She is seven points shy of the single-season points mark at Clarkson with two games to go.

Brooklynne Perrigo scored three times, while Makenna Cassin scored twice and won six draws. Sydney Nakas had three caused turnovers and two assists, and Gabby Cranfield added a goal and an assist on offense. Meredith James led the team with three groundballs.

For Skidmore, Jillian Lockwood scored four times and Lily Schwartzman netted three scores. Charlotte Taylor had three caused turnovers and four draws, and Tessa Snyder had three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Isabella Iannone posted eight saves along with four groundballs.
