As is the case in most years, the Liberty League standings are a jumbled mess with just a few games remaining on the schedule for most teams. The Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team hosts two teams, like itself, battling for a conference tournament playoff spots as the Golden Knights host Union College and Skidmore College this weekend at Hantz Field.

The Series: Clarkson has lost four straight to Union, including a narrow 17-15 defeat in 2024 in which Madelynn Barnum scored eight times. At the other end of the spectrum, Skidmore held Barnum without a goal in last season's matchup, one of only six times that the graduate student has been silenced in the goal department in more than 70 career games.

Key Stats for Clarkson (8-5, 2-4 Liberty League): The Knights got a much-needed win over RIT last Saturday to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, but the final four games all come against teams that are in similar need for victories down the stretch. Only a game-and-a-half separate fourth place from ninth place in the league standings. While Barnum is the focal point of Clarkson's offense for good reason (57 goals, 10 assists), the return of junior Lauren Shanahan has been a boost. A Liberty League All-Star in 2023, Shanahan missed all of 2024 and was back for game action for the first time just last week where she produced six points on five goals and an assist.

Key Stats for Union (8-3, 4-3 Liberty League): The Garnet Chargers have proven that they can beat the top teams, with wins over top-25 opponents MIT (12-8) and Ithaca (12-10). Union does it with defense, ranking second in the conference in opponents goals against average (8.91 gpg) and second in caused turnovers (11.27 ctpg). Five different players have surpassed 10 caused turnovers in just 11 games so far. Last year's Liberty League Rookie of the Year Gillian Joseph has not skipped a beat from her standout first season, easily leading the team in points with 50 (32-18-50) while also topping the team in caused turnovers (13).

Key Stats for Skidmore (6-7, 3-4 Liberty League): Isabella Iannone and Maggie Hough have split time in the crease for the Thoroughbreds this year in an attempt to replace last year's Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year Liv Kazanjian. Skidmore's offense is up slightly from a year ago, scoring roughly .3 goals more per game, but the defense isn't quite as good, allowing two more goals per contest. Lily Schwartzman has scored a team-best 34 points, all via goals, while Julia Cafasso is close behind in both categories with 33 points (27-6-33). Tessa Snyder is the top defender for the Thoroughbreds, leading the squad with 17 caused turnovers and 20 groundballs.
