CU Softball Preview - vs. SUNY Potsdam/at Oswego State (3/27-28)

Scott Field is ready and the weather is cooperating so the Clarkson University Softball team will open up the home slate on Thursday against SUNY Potsdam before traveling to take on Oswego State on Friday.

The Series: Clarkson went 2-2 last year against Potsdam, splitting each doubleheader with a win in game one and a loss in game two. Likewise, the Golden Knights split their doubleheader against Oswego State, taking the first game 8-0 and dropping the second 8-1.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-7): Devin Fitzpatrick was a tough out for the Bears a year ago, going 7-for-13 with two home runs, seven runs scored and six more driven in over the course of four games. This year, Fitzpatrick is hitting .303/.378/.737 with four home runs and eight runs batted in, moving her career total in homers to 13, one short of Sarah Vaccaro's total of 14 and two shy of the program record set by Michele Winn. Kaya Johnson had a strong end to the Florida trip, batting 7-for-15 with three runs and five RBI over the final four games of the run.

Key Stats for SUNY Potsdam (4-4): Graduate student Kelsey Bennett leads the Bears in hitting with a .458/.519/.625 slash line. More impressively, Bennett has swiped 12 bases this year in as many tries and has yet to be caught in her collegiate career, stealing 41 bases overall. Danielle Moscarello is also hitting well at .381/.458/.429 and Kaylee Dobransky is slashing .333/.333/.583. Potsdam utilizes its speed to score as the team has yet to hit a home run in 2025.

Key Stats for Oswego State (5-5): Like Potsdam, the Lakers have yet to hit a home run in 10 games in 2025, though that could change in their doubleheader against University of Rochester on Thursday. What has helped Oswego State this year is a strong pitching staff. The team's five hurlers have combined for a 1.99 earned run average and 1.15 WHIP. Chelsea Sellars has 12 strikeouts in 15.2 innings and 1.34 ERA, while Gabriela Milazzo has the best WHIP at 0.95, helping her to a 1.47 ERA. Maria Lutz has tossed the most innings (27.0) and has a 1.11 WHIP and 2.07 ERA.
