Game Recap: Softball |

Knights Split on Tuesday to Earn First Win of 2025

Clermont, FL – Scoring six times in the fourth inning, the Clarkson University Softball team won its first game of the year with a 6-3 victory against Buffalo State before falling 1-0 to Bates in the second game of the day Tuesday in Florida.

Clarkson had runners in scoring position in the second and third innings but failed to cash in before the Knights erupted for their six spot in the fourth against Buffalo State. Isabel Haspil opened with a double and later came around on a Lexi Rydelek single to put the Knights on the board and a few batters later Emma Sabourin singled in another run to make it 2-0. Kaya Johnson then walked to load the bases, setting up a single to center for Elissa Uveino which plated two more runs. Haspil came up to bat again in the inning and delivered another two-run single to put Clarkson up 6-0.

The Bengals broke through with three runs in the top of the seventh to keep Clarkson from earning a shutout, but Amanda Corrice induced a fly out with a runner on second to end the contest.

Uveino and Haspil each went 2-for-2 with two runs driven in and a run scored, while Emma Sabourin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Devin Fitzpatrick picked up the win with five strong innings, allowing four hits and a walk while also striking out four. Amanda Corrice ended the game, tossing the final two innings.

Though just one run was scored in the second game of the day, each team had its chances. Bates left two on in the bottom of the first and Clarkson had runners on second and third with only one out in the top of the second. An inning later, Clarkson escaped a potential jamb with a double play started by Elizabeth Greco. In the fourth, runners were again on second and third for the Bobcats, but the Knights ended the frame thanks to a catch from Emma Sabourin in center.

Bates eventually got the game-winning run in the sixth on a solo home run to center from Isabella Bettencourt. Clarkson challenged in the seventh when Isabel Haspil reached on a one-out single, but a fly out and ground out ended the contest.

Bella Hotchkiss threw six innings for the Knights, scattering eight hits and giving up just a single earned run with one walk and two strikeouts. Offensively, Clarkson's middle hitters each recorded a hit, while Isabel Haspil reached twice via a hit and one walk.

For Bates, Grace Householter led the offense thanks to a 2-for-3 performance that included a triple. Delaney Rankin picked up the win, tossing seven scoreless frames with seven strikeouts while allowing a walk and three hits.
