Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Offense Opens Up as Clarkson Downs William Smith, 81-72

Geneva, NY – For the first time in 50-plus games, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team surpassed the 80-point mark, topping William Smith 81-72 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights halted a four-game losing streak and moved to 6-11 overall and 2-8 in the Liberty League, while William Smith fell to 2-15 and 2-8.

Since the start of the New Year, Clarkson's offense has been off on the road, but that changed on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, they found themselves with an equally hot opponent. In the opening quarter, the Golden Knights shot 57.1% from the floor but trailed by seven as William Smith started off 6-for-7 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first 10 minutes. Giana Lobozzo hit a 3-pointer at the 5:00 mark to put the Herons up by five (12-7) and only 90 seconds later Molly Walsh tossed in another 3-pointer to give William Smith a nine-point advantage (21-20). Clarkson chipped away to get back within two, only to see another Walsh 3-pointer extend the home team's lead to seven at the end of the first quarter.

Clarkson began the second with an 8-0 run in just a minute, capped by a Fallon Griffin 3-pointer. Another Griffin 3-pointer 50 seconds later put the Knights back in the lead, and Clarkson was ahead for the next seven minutes before a 9-0 run from the Herons in the last two minutes put William Smith back on top by four. However, a 3-point heave from a step shy of the half court line by Griffin found nothing but the bottom of the net as the buzzer sounded, putting the score at 47-46 at the break.

Both teams shot the lights out in the first half, with Clarkson going 17-for-28 (60.7%) and the Herons hitting 17-of-30 attempts (56.7%). Clarkson's 46 points in the first half were more than the team had scored in five of the previous seven games in 2025.

Each offense slowed somewhat in the third and the two teams traded the lead in the early going. Clarkson led by two off a Bella Doyle jumper at 5:12, but an 8-1 run in a stretch of two-and-a-half minutes gave the Herons their biggest lead since the first quarter at 64-56.

With two makes in the final minute of the third and a significant offensive roll at the start of the fourth quarter, Clarkson went on a 14-2 run in just four minutes of the overlapping periods. Much of the offense was created off turnovers and open looks from in close by the Knights. Moly Walsh hit a 3-pointer at the 4:47 mark to get William Smith back within one, but it was the home team's first make from the floor in the quarter. The Herons did trim the deficit slightly with free throws and were back within two at the 2:11 mark off a Giana Lobozzo make. With a chance to tie or take the lead, William Smith missed a shot from the top of the key and Bella Doyle grabbed a rebound with 1:20 to go. The Knights then milked the clock and Cassidy Dumont found Raelin Burns in the corner where the junior guard would sink the 3-pointer with only 50 seconds to go, making it 77-72. Clarkson then made four free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

Clarkson held the Herons to 1-for-12 shooting in the fourth quarter and shot 7-for-11 from the field, with all seven makes receiving assists.

The Golden Knights posted 22 assists in the game and two nearly reached double figures. Bella Doyle was close to a triple-double with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists, and Cassidy Dumont was close to a double-double on 11 points and eight assists. Raelin Burns notched 17 points and four steals and Fallon Griffin tossed in 18 points.

For William Smith, Giana Lobozzo was solid all around with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Molly Walsh contributed 14 points and Anne Keneally posted 10 points.
