Saratoga Springs, NY – Devin Fitzpatrick homered for the seventh time in 2024, but the Clarkson University Softball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday as the Golden Knights were swept on the road by Skidmore College, 3-1 and 8-3.

The Golden Knights finished off the year with a record of 11-25 overall and 3-11 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore edged forward to 9-27 and 3-11.

In the opening game, neither team scored an earned run in the contest. Skidmore pushed three across in the bottom of the second. Claire Stone was hit by a pitch, moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, and then came home on an error for the first run, and Bernie Berner plated a pair to put the tally at 3-0. Clarkson responded with a run in the top of the third, as Elissa Uveino reached on an error and advanced to second on the same play. After an attempted double play resulted in a throwing error, Uveino was able to move to third, allowing Katy Aldous's infield single to make it 3-1.

Mallory Allen picked up the win, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out three in seven innings of work for the Thoroughbreds. Devin Fitzpatrick was the tough-luck losing pitcher, tossing six innings with seven hits and a walk allowed against six strikeouts.

Game two saw Clarkson earn three hits in the first inning, but the team was unable to score, allowing the Thoroughbreds to take advantage in the bottom half of the inning. Elle Harrison was hit by a pitch, Berner walked and an RBI single from Claire Stone made it 1-0. Clarkson briefly took the lead in the top of the fourth when Fitzpatrick hammered a pitch to deep left for her seventh home run of the season, tying her for the most in a single-season at Clarkson with Michele Winn (2017).

Skidmore came right back, however, in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff single was the start, but several hitters were walked or reached on hit by pitches, forcing in a couple of runs, while wild pitches allowed two more to come home. Mallory Allen and Jessica Nachamie each singled in a run to put the score at 7-2. Berner delivered a two-out single in the fifth to give Skidmore an 8-2 advantage.

Fitzpatrick drove in Zoey Kovach in the top of the seventh, but that run was all the Knights could get in their final chance at the dish. Emma Sabourin finished 3-for-3 in the second game, Fitzpatrick drove in all three runs on two hits, and Katy Aldous was 2-for-4.
