Potsdam, NY – Offense was not lacking Friday afternoon, but the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team was unable to keep pace with 20th-ranked Ithaca College, as the Bombers pulled away in the second half to claim a 24-11 win in Liberty League action at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights suffered their first loss in league play and fell to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in conference games, while Ithaca improved to 8-1 and 4-0 in the Liberty League. Clarkson will take on second-ranked William Smith College on Saturday afternoon.

Madelynn Barnum scored less than a minute into the game in what was a busy first quarter in terms of offense. Stoppages were regular at both ends of the field, as Ithaca had five goals in less than eight minutes and Clarkson had three in a similar stretch. By the end of the opening period, the score was 7-4, what could be the tally at the half of many games. Things didn't slow down in the second quarter by much, as each team was within one of its first quarter production.

In the second half, Ithaca took care of the ball better, as the team limited its miscues to none in the third quarter and only three in the fourth period. This allowed the Bombers to eventually open up a double-digit lead near the end of the third quarter (19-9), though Barnum's goal with a little over a minute to go kept Clarkson's hopes alive. However, the Knights finished with just two shots overall and only one shot on goal in the fourth quarter, ending any chance of a furious comeback.

Madelynn Barnum was busy on both offense and defense for the Knights, recording six points on five goals and an assist while also contributing two groundballs and eight draw controls. Julia Lavarnway notched four points with a goal and three assists. Hailey Millington scored twice and had three groundballs and Brooklynne Perrigo picked up four draws and added two goals. Defensively, Makenna Cassin and Rylee Ganter each caused two turnovers for the Knights. Clarkson split its goaltenders with Jennaca McGill making the start and stopping six shots in the first half, while Riley Donovan made two saves in the third quarter and Clare Tucker denied one shot in the fourth quarter.

For Ithaca, Lily Cody won nine draws and scored seven points thanks to five goals and two assists, and Sydney Phillips contributed six points on five goals and an assist. Juliana Esposito, Chloe Nordyke, and Elizabeth Green each scored four goals. Lexi Kellish caused four turnovers and had three groundballs while goaltender Lexi Held stopped three shots and picked up six groundballs.
