Clarkson Offense Buzzing Early in 19-9 Win Over Oneonta State

Potsdam, NY – Freshman Gabby Cranfield had eight points overall and senior Hailey Millington scored seven goals in the first half as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team used a big first quarter to roll to a 19-9 win over Oneonta State on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights remained unbeaten at 3-0 and will open conference play next weekend against Vassar College. Oneonta dropped to 0-3 on the season.

The two teams were tied 3-3 near the midway point of the first quarter, but the Golden Knights rattled off seven straight to end the period, putting the Knights up 10-3 through 10 minutes. Hailey Millington and Gabby Cranfield connected several times in the opening period, and connected five times in the first half overall. Clarkson pushed its advantage to double figures by the 9:01 mark of the second quarter, but Oneonta was able to rally enough to put the gap at nine goals by the end of the half.

The Red Dragons wouldn't let the game get any further away, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter and holding the Knights to just one goal in the entire period as Clarkson was limited to only four shots in the third. Clarkson would rediscover its offensive punch early on in the fourth, scoring three times in a stretch of just 75 seconds to return the margin to double figures.

Cranfield recorded eight points on one goal and seven assists, while Millington scored all seven of her goals in the first half. Julia Lavarnway scored five points on two goals and three assists, surpassing 150 career points in the process. Barnum, who reached 150 points on Thursday, also added to her figure with five more goals. Grace Graney also chipped in three scores. Millington had nine draws, while Ireland Morgia had six draws, four groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Jennaca McGill made four saves and also had five groundballs.

For Oneonta, Marissa Evans was busy with four points on three goals and an assist while also contributing three draws, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Lauren Mancini scored three times and Margaret Byrne also chipped in two scores. Emma Furze had two caused turnovers and three groundballs. Courtney Gallagher stopped six shots in the final 45 minutes of the contest.
