Knights Drop 6-1 Decision in Game 1 of Series at RIT

Rochester, NY – For the second time in three games, the Clarkson University Baseball team was limited to only a single run as the Golden Knights couldn't quite keep up with RIT in a 6-1 Liberty League defeat on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 7-6 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League while RIT improved to 8-9 and 3-0. The two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

RIT picked up its first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Kyle Poorman reached on an error and advanced around the circuit thanks to two singles and a bases loaded walk to Adam Marsh. In the bottom of the third, the Tigers picked up an earned run as Trent Rapp hit a leadoff home run to put the score at 2-0.

Clarkson scored its run in the top of the fourth. With one out, Robert Fratangelo doubled down the left field line, the Knights' first hit of the game. After a Jake Millich ground out pushed Fratangelo to third, Quinn Maslowski hit the ball right back up the middle for an RBI, making it 2-1.

That would be as close as the score would get, however, with RIT scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth. Charlie Slaymaker doubled and then came in on a John Bagley single. The next two runs for the Tigers weren't as clean, as a bases loaded walk to Randy Dodig forced in a run, and then a wild pitch allowed Bagley to score. In the eighth, the Tigers tacked one on for good measure, with Slaymaker's sacrifice fly scoring Adam Marsh.

Clarkson was limited to four hits in the contest, including doubles from Fratangelo and Aidan Kuefner. Maslowski and CJ Cartier also had hits in the game. Mateo Sarabia took the loss for the Knights, going 4.1 innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out eight. For RIT, Matt Chase picked up the win thanks to wiggling out of jams in six innings where he gave up four hits and three walks. Eric Sipling picked up the save, tossing three innings of hitless baseball.
