Second-Half Run by Nazareth Sends Knights to Defeat, 13-10

Potsdam, NY – The defense stood up for Nazareth in the second half as the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team had trouble getting shots around the goalkeeper in the final 30 minutes, with the Golden Knights coming up short in the fourth quarter in a 13-10 defeat to Nazareth on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 1-2 on the year and will be on the road against Oswego State on Wednesday. Nazareth edged up to 2-2 in 2024.

Clarkson was on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter, and though Nazareth took the lead near the midway point of the period on back-to-back goals, it was the Knights that would produce offense in a short stretch. Alex Seiler scored unassisted at 5:04, Connor Holly found the back of the net on the man-up at 4:26 after Seiler had scored, and right off the next faceoff Sebastian Geiger scored, putting the Knights up 4-2 with a little over four minutes remaining.

In the second, Clarkson was called for three penalties, but Naz capitalized on just one, but that score allowed the visitors to tie the game late in the quarter. Tyler Hall put the Knights back on top with just over two minutes to go when he ran across the middle for a lefty shot, making it 7-6 at the break.

Nazareth's defense was up to the task in the second half despite a 19-15 deficit in shots over the final 30 minutes. Ralston McLean made plenty of saves with Clarkson players right on the doorstep with point-blank shots, but McLean more often than not picked the attempts clean. That allowed the Golden Flyers to steadily build an advantage, as the visitors went from having the game tied at 8-8 to ending the quarter with a two-goal lead. After trading goals at the start of the fourth, Quinn Conroy made it a three-goal lead at 8:18 and Quinn McKercher scored a back-breaker with 1:41 to go for a four-goal lead.

Clarkson led in shots (45-35), shots on goal (23-21), and groundballs (38-33). Sebastian Geiger led the Knights with four points on three goals and an assist, Alex Seiler added two goals and one assist for three points, and Thomas Fiebich had two points with a goal and an assist. Matt Szwagulinski recorded six groundballs. For Nazareth, six different players had multi-point games, led by Quinn Conroy's four points (2-2-4). Ralston McLean finished with 13 saves in the contest for the Golden Flyers.
