Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Clarkson Closes Out Campaign with Narrow Defeat to Skidmore, 54-46

Potsdam, NY – Neither team led by more than single digits throughout Saturday's contest, as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team dropped a 54-46 decision to second-place Skidmore College in Liberty League action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their second conclude with a record of 4-21 overall and 2-16 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore improved to 21-4 and 16-2.

At the start of the first half, Skidmore had a modest four-point lead, but the Knights quickly came back and eventually took the lead on a free throw from Lexi Huiatt with 2:19 to go. Maddie Hastings hit a layup as time expired in the first to put Skidmore back on top, 14-12. The second quarter was slow going, with the two teams combining to shoot just 2-for-27 from the field (both baskets were made by Clarkson). The lead instead changed hands via free throws as Skidmore went into the locker room up by one.

The offenses both kicked up in the third quarter. Skidmore actually had more points in the period than it did in the entirety of the first half, and the Knights were close to matching their first-half output as well. Sarah Chambers hit a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter, including one that gave the Thoroughbreds a nine-point lead. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, including a buzzer-beating make from Bella Doyle that had the gap at seven (43-36).

Raelin Burns nailed a 3-pointer at the start of the fourth to reduce the margin to four as again the two teams traded points. A Cassidy Dumont layup with 3:09 remaining put the deficit at just three for the Knights (49-46), but that was the last point the Knights would get as Skidmore hit just enough free throws to keep Clarkson at a safe distance.

Bella Doyle finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for the Knights, while Dumont chipped in 13 points. For Skidmore, Becca Horger, Cassie Davidson, Sarah Chambers, and Madison Meyer each had 11 points. Maddie Hastings produced 13 rebounds for the Thoroughbreds.
