Knights Battle to Scoreless Tie Against Skidmore

Potsdam, NY – Although the team was held off the scoreboard for the first time in 2024, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten in a 0-0 Liberty League draw against Skidmore College on Wednesday evening at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights picked up their fourth tie of the year, moving to 5-0-4 overall and 1-0-1 in conference matches, while Skidmore had its sixth tie, going to 1-1-6 and 0-0-2. Clarkson is on the road for league play this weekend, heading down to Hobart College on Saturday.

Shots were limited in the first half, with no challenging saves necessary by either goalkeeper. The best opportunities sailed high or wide of the frame, and the top chances usually coming in the way of solid runs by both teams which were snuffed out before much could get organized.

Although Skidmore had four shots on goal out of its six in the second half, its best chance actually came on a ricochet in the final 10 minutes when an attempted clearing try by the Knights' defense was blocked and went wide of the net from roughly 20 yards out. Clarkson had the two best scoring chances of the half, both of which came in the final 20 minutes. With just under 20 to go, Eric McKean rifled a shot that was just high over the woodwork, and with under three minutes left to play, Daniel Medina's header off a cross went a touch wide. The last chance for the Knights came with roughly 90 seconds left as Josh Conklin's attempt from 25-30 yards out went over the woodwork as well.

Clarkson had the edge in total shots (12-9), but Skidmore produced more shots on goal (5-1), though none were particularly close calls. The Thoroughbreds also won the battle on corners, 6-4. Carter Kladstrup made five saves for his fourth shutout in the past five games, and Will Devall denied one shot on goal for his third clean sheet of the year.
