Knights Drop Third Game of Series to St. Lawrence, 13-11

Canton, NY – After a day full of rain delayed the third game of the series, the Clarkson University Baseball team and St. Lawrence University finished off the set on Sunday afternoon, with the Golden Knights dropping the regular-season finale, 13-11, at Tom Fay Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 11-21 overall and 9-9 in the Liberty League, while the Saints moved to 11-19 and 5-13. Clarkson will take on Skidmore College next weekend in a best-of-three series in the Liberty League Crossover with a spot in the Liberty League Tournament up for grabs.

Clarkson got on the scoreboard first with back-to-back hits from Joe Pagano and Colby Brouillette, setting up Joe Figliolino's infield groundout to score Pagano. Tim Connor homered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. The Knights responded with two in the top of the second, as Kent Wilson doubled and Colby Fox walked. An error allowed one run to score, and the next came around on a throwing error following Aidan Kuefner's single. Connor plated St. Lawrence's second run with a sac fly in the third, only to see Clarkson counter with an RBI single from Kuefner to score Wilson, putting the score at 4-2.

Runs piled up in the middle innings as St. Lawrence scored five in the fifth, all with the benefit of just one hit. Clarkson came back with five in the top of the sixth to regain the lead. Coby Fox scored on a wild pitch, Caleb Doyle singled in CJ Cartier, Doyle scored on a wild pitch, Figliolino singled in a run, and Cam Jerrett also singled in a run to account for the five. However, St. Lawrence scored six in the bottom half of the inning. Eric Desjardins doubled in a pair and John Donnellan doubled in two more to highlight the frame for the Saints.

After a few quiet innings, Clarkson picked up two in the ninth to tighten the game back up. Kuefner grounded out to score Will Roda, and a sacrifice fly by Doyle scored Cartier, but one final ground out ended the game.

CJ Cartier finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored, Aidan Kuefner drove in two runs and went 2-for-5, Kent Wilson was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, Cam Jerrett went 2-for-5, and Joe Pagano had a pair of hits in six at bats with two runs scored to lead the Clarkson offense.
