Knights Close Out Florida Trip with 9-8 Loss Versus Oneonta

Auburndale, FL – After falling in an early hole by seven runs, the Clarkson University Baseball team rallied to get within one on two occasions, but could not quite complete the comeback in a 9-8 defeat against Oneonta State on Thursday at the Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex.

The Golden Knights closed out their spring trip and will be back in action in another 10 days when they face Hobart College for a three-game Liberty League series.

In the second inning, Oneonta picked up a pair of runs on a Nate Guillen triple, but the big inning for both teams came in the third. The Red Dragons pushed five runs across in the top of the third to take a 7-0 lead, but the Golden Knights rallied for six in the bottom half of the frame. The first run came in on a fielder's choice from Caleb Doyle, and that was followed by two-run doubles from both Jake Millich and Aidan Kuefner, putting the score at 7-5. Kent Wilson followed with a single up the middle to plate Kuefner, pulling Clarkson within one.

Both teams were quiet in the fourth and fifth, but each tallied twice in the sixth. Liam Kaseta tripled in a run and then finished the circuit on an error for Oneonta, while CJ Cartier doubled home a pair in the bottom half of the inning, making the score 9-8. Clarkson would threaten in the bottom of the ninth when Doyle and Cartier opened the inning with singles, but a fielder's choice and two infield outs ended the game.

CJ Cartier went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair for Clarkson, and Joe Pagano scored twice and was 2-for-3 for the Knights. For Oneonta, Liam Kaseta was 3-for-5 with two runs and Joe Ottaviano was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs.
