For the 2
nd straight game the Knights would allow an early goal but storm back to earn their 5
th win of the season, as they defeated UVM 4-2 at Gutterson Field House this evening.
UVM would face some early pressure from the Knights, but a break back towards the Clarkson net resulted in a goal, when Alaina Tanski ripped a wrist shot over the glove of
Michelle Pasiechnyk just over 2 minutes into the game.Â
The Knights would allow the Cats only 29 seconds of joy, before
Brooke McQuigge would tie the game at 2:45 of the first period.Â
The trend of point production from the defense, continued when
Alexie Guay scored her 2
nd of the season at 11:33 from
Darcie Lappan and
Shelby Laidlaw to put the Knights up 2-1 after the first.
Just 58 seconds into the 2
nd period,
Dominique Petrie would get her first goal as a Golden Knight and add to her team lead in points. The Catamounts would pull to within a goal shortly after and it would stay 3-2 for the remainder of the 2
nd period.Â
In the final frame,
Anne Cherkowski would give the Knights some breathing room when she got a centering feed just off the crease and showing the patience of a goal scorer, waited the UVM goalie out and then shot once the net opened up. Â For Cherkowski, the goal capped off a 3 point night.
The shot total finished 31 to 16 in favor of the Knights marking the 5
th time this season they have outshot and opponent and held them to under 20 shots. Pasiechnyk made 14 saves for her 4 win of the season. Â
Clarkson, the more physical team, had to kill off 5 chances for the Cats on the power play, while going 0 for 1 with their only advantage of the night.
Next, the 5-0 Knights will face UVM again Saturday night for a 7:05 face off at The Gut.
