Potsdam, NY – With just two reception errors and three service errors, the Clarkson University Volleyball team won the game of the serve game on Saturday against Union College, as the Golden Knights won in straight sets 27-25, 25-19, 25-10 at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in Liberty League contests, while the Garnett Chargers fell to 11-9 and 2-3 in conference games. With the victory, Clarkson becomes the first team to clinch a playoff berth as one of the top six teams in the league.

Things didn't start off great for the Knights, as Union built an early lead with five straight points, three coming on unforced errors by Clarkson. That was enough to keep the Garnett Chargers ahead through the middle points, pushing the advantage to five points (21-16) late. However, a string of mistakes on the attack by Union helped Clarkson get back into the set, with the game tying up at 21-21 on a kill from Sara Galante. Clarkson would take the lead and actually had the first set-point, only to see Union rally with three straight points and create a set-point of its own. Tess Sorel then tied the set with a kill, Isabelle Crow put the Knights up with an ace, and Allyson Treichel ended the game with a kill.

Clarkson limited its mistakes in the second game, hitting above .200 after a .143 output in the first set. The Knights led for most of the set, though Union did take the lead with three straight points near the midway spot of the game, as Graciela Escobar posted consecutive kills to make it 16-15 in favor of the visitors. Clarkson responded with five straight points, including two blocks, and put the set away shortly thereafter with kills from Allyson Treichel and Tess Sorel.

The third set was never in doubt, as the Knights hit .344 (12-1-32) and the Chargers struggled to hit just .027 (9-8-27). Union won two of the first three points, but the next 13 belonged to Clarkson on a combination of offense and unforced errors on the other side of the net. The 12-point margin was more than enough of a cushion, as Clarkson cruised to the third set win.

Sara Galante led the Golden Knights in kills (12), digs (18), and aces (3), while Tess Sorel hit .600 (9-0-15). Isabelle Crown posted 33 assists and a pair of aces. Clarkson's defensive specialists were active as well, with Abigail Spector picking up 11 digs, Cecilia Velardi recording 10 digs, and Emma Cortez notching 10 digs. Sorel also had four block assists in the match.

For Union, Shannon McGrath picked up 11 kills, but hit just .175 in the match. Keara Page was more efficient at .429 (10-1-29), and Maddie McCarron produced eight kills and four total blocks, three solo efforts. Georgia Pool had 15 assists and Sydney Scanlon scored 30 assists.
