Knights Drop Pair to #19 Rowan and New Paltz

Leesburg, FL – Olivia Zoeller tossed a four-hitter in Thursday's opener against Rowan University, but the Clarkson University Softball team came up short in two games, falling to Rowan 2-0 and then dropping a 10-2 decision to SUNY New Paltz.

Clarkson fell to 0-4 on the season, while Rowan improved to 10-3 and New Paltz jumped to 8-4. The Golden Knights take on Smith College and Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday morning.

Zoeller struck out six and allowed just four hits with no walks in six frames against the Profs, but Rowan was able to push a run across in both the third and sixth innings while Clarkson's offense was held in check by Rylee Lutz. Grace Shukaitis tripled in a run in the third and then a single by Korie Hague plated another to account for all of the scoring in game one. The Knights had runners in scoring position in the second and sixth innings, but were unable to cash in on either opportunity.

In the second game of the day, New Paltz started with three runs in the first inning, but Clarkson got two back in the bottom half of the inning on a single from Zoey Kovach. Both teams were quiet for the next few frames, only to see New Paltz break out in the fourth with seven runs and close the game out in five frames.
