Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Clarkson drops Maine 8-1

The Clarkson Women's Hockey team celebrated Black Friday with an 8-1 win over Maine of Hockey East.

Clarkson grabbed the lead in the first period for the 9th time this season when Brooke McQuigge scored her 2nd goal in as many games at 15:47 of the opening period.  Gretchen Branton and Stephanie Markowski assisted on the goal to give the Knights the lead after one period of play.

The Knights would start the middle frame with a goal at the 2:30 mark, when Haley Winn would make her return to the lineup pay off.  Branton would pick up her second helper of the game along with Kirstyn McQuigge.  The Knights would rattle off four more goals in the 2nd period as Jaden Bogden would score on a breakaway at 10:11, Stephanie Markowski would make it 4-0 at 13:10 and chase Maine goaltender, Jordan Mattison.  Things didn't get easier for Brooklyn Oaks as the Knights, Gabrielle David would score at 15:57 then Jenna Goodwin would make it 6-0 at 16:57.

The Knights would add to their lead with a short handed goal at 6:48 of the third period.  Sena Catterall would get a chip off the boards from Nicole Gosling and looked off the pass to David and was able to beat Maine's 3rd goalie of the game, Anna Larose.  Clarkson would give Maine a few chances on the power play and the Bears were eventually able to break through just as a power play expired with a tipped shot at 14:34 of the third, when Mira Seregely would make it 7-1.  That goal would end over 114 minutes of shutout hockey for Michelle Pasiechnyk.   The Knights got that goal back when Anne Cherkowski would score at 17:14 to make the final 8-1 for the Golden Knights.

Pasiechnyk would end the game with 20 saves for her 11th win of the season.

The two teams will face off at 2:00 pm on Saturday to wrap up the weekend series.
