Knights' Bench Rises to Occasion in Clarkson's 70-58 Win Over SUNY Canton

Canton, NY – Matteo Sinon and Garret Delaney combined for 26 of 34 points off the bench for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team, as the Golden Knights utilized their depth to down SUNY Canton 70-58 on Friday evening.

The victory was Clarkson's first on the young season, and the Green and Gold will look to make it a streak when they take on SUNY Potsdam at 2:00 pm on Saturday in the Alumni Gymnasium.

The first half was one of back-and-forth runs by each team as one team would get hot and the other cold. Canton started off the game with a 12-5 run in the first five minutes, but the Knights responded with a 10-0 streak thanks to two 3-pointers from Garret Delaney. Clarkson would eventually edge out to a six-point lead (21-15) after a Dante Joefield jumper, but the Roos rattled off 14 straight points in a stretch of just three-plus minutes, capped off by a DeMerrill Levy lay in at 3:08. The Knights then ended the half on a 7-1 run, with Finn Cork drawing the Knights within two on a last-second put back, putting the score at 30-28 at the break.

The Knights briefly took the lead at the start of the second half, but again Canton rolled off nine straight points, with Levy's 3-pointer at 16:29 giving Canton a 39-32 lead. Clarkson would slowly edge back, finally tying the game at 48 when Jack Dalgety buried a 3-pointer with 8:35 to go. Although Canton reclaimed the advantage just 28 seconds later, the Knights went on a big run to put the game away. Canton shot just 1-for-12 in a stretch of six minutes as Clarkson hit shots of all kinds to pull away. The biggest make for the Knights came with 4:05 remaining with Ryan Miles-Ferguson hit a deep 3-pointer from the elbow extended, putting Clarkson up by four (56-52). From that point on, the Knights were able to convert from the free throw line and eventually build a 12-point margin for the win.

Miles-Ferguson scored 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting and also added six rebounds and three blocked shots. Matteo Sinon was 7-for-8 from the free throw line to tie for the team-lead in scoring at 16 points, and Delaney also tossed in 10 points as a reserve. Dalgety also reached double digits for the Knights, scoring 10 points. Clarkson shot 13-for-24 in the second half and was 13-for-16 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.

For Canton, Quran DuBois scored 19 points and also snagged eight rebounds, and Juztin Chambers-Phillips scored 11 while also finding his teammates for four assists.
