Clarkson would get the start they needed against Cornell when
Ayrton Martino would get his first goal of the season just 1:11 into the start of the game and
Jordan Power would also get his first of the year on the Power Play at 3:53.
In the 2nd period the pace of the game slowed due to penalties on both side, but at 12:24 Clarkson cashed in on one of those power plays, when
Anthony Callin got his 2nd goal of the weekend, putting the Knights up 3-0. Near the end of the 2nd period,
Tommy Pasanen was called for a 5 min major for contact to the head, Cornell would head into the 3rd with 4:40 of power play time.
Cornell would end up getting a holding the stick call against that would take some of the power play to 4 on 4 action and then Knights would kill off the rest of the major penalty.
Cornell would break
Ethan Haider's streak of 169 minutes of scoreless hockey as a screen shot from the point made it 3-1 with 11:00 left to go in the game. The Knights killed off another Cornell power play midway thru the 3rd.
The Big Red would pull their goalie for the extra attacker with about 2 minutes to go but could not break through and the Knights would add a late empty net goal to make it 4-1 as
Ayrton Martino got his 2nd of the game.
Ethan Haider was very strong in net only allowing 1 goal on 22 shots and now has gone 4 games with only 4 goals allowed.
The Knight's won the special teams battle, going 2 for 5 on the power play and holding the Big Red to no goals on 5 attempts. For the Knights that is their first win against the Big Red at Cheel since Jan of 2016 and gives them their first weekend sweep of the season.
Next up the Knights will host the Sun Devils of Arizona St here at Cheel next Fri and Sat.
