Clarkson and Rensselaer Close Out Regular-Season With Scoreless Tie

Potsdam, NY – Closing out the regular season at home, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team had several scoring chances come up empty and settled for a 0-0 tie against Rensselaer on Saturday at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 9-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the Liberty League while the Engineers saw their season end at 3-7-5 and 1-4-4. Clarkson will head to Skidmore College on Tuesday for its Liberty League First Round playoff game at a time yet to be determined.

Though both teams had chances in the first half, it was the second half that produced the best scoring chances. Early in the second half the Engineers were whistled for a handball just outside the penalty area, giving Clarkson a free kick from about 20 yards out. Julia Tylar's attempt hit the underside of the crossbar and bounded out and a header from Maddie Lopol was then denied by RPI goalkeeper Sierra Skelding to keep the game scoreless. Twenty minutes later Angelina Fahrenkrug also hit the crossbar as the Knights were unable to get on the scoreboard.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Engineers had a similar opportunity as Rachel Borra's shot was blocked from about 15 yards out, and then the bouncing ball found the foot of Sarah Sedlacek, who also hit the underside of the crossbar. Each team had one more shot in the final eight minutes, but both soared high.

Clarkson finished with a 15-10 lead in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kick chances. Each team had three shots on goal, with Molly DiCaprio making three stops for her sixth shutout of the year, while Megan Wampner and Sierra Skelding combined for three stops for RPI's shutout.
