Clarkson Drops 78-52 Decision to St. Lawrence

Potsdam, NY – An impressive shooting performance from the visitors put the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team at an early disadvantage, and the Golden Knights were unable to rally in a 78-52 defeat against St. Lawrence University on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-10 on the season and 1-6 in conference games, and the Saints moved to 9-5 and 4-4 in the Liberty League. Clarkson will play Hobart College and RIT this weekend as it continues its seven-game home stand.

The Golden Knights struggled with the zone defense put forth by St. Lawrence, especially during a 10-minute stretch midway through the half. St. Lawrence went 8-for-11 in the streak, including four makes from the perimeter, while the Knights made just two of 16 attempts in the stretch, going only 1-for-11 from beyond the arc. That run put the Saints up by 15, and though the Knights recovered to within eight after a 7-0 run, St. Lawrence ended the half on a 14-2 streak of its own to double-up the Knights at the break.

St. Lawrence shot 16-for-25 (64.0%) in the first half while the Knights were only 8-for-30 (26.7%).

The Saints began the second half on an 8-0 run as the Knights continued to have trouble against the zone. St. Lawrence was able to get 3-pointers from five different shooters in the second half, while Clarkson had a brief spark thanks to long shots from Frankie Rainville and Jack Dalgety, but the margin was too wide for the Knights to make a comeback.

Dalgety finished with eight points to lead all Clarkson scorers while both Frankie Rainville and Joe Lucas tossed in seven points off the bench. Matteo Sinon also had six points and three assists.

For St. Lawrence, Trent Adamson scored 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds while Will Engelhardt shot 5-for-6 from the floor for 15 points and added in four assists.
