CU Softball Preview - vs. St. Lawrence (4/9-10)

Fresh off a perfect first conference series, the Clarkson University Softball team looks to carry that momentum through this weekend as the Golden Knights take on Route 11 rival St. Lawrence University on Friday and Saturday.

The Series: Clarkson won the first two games of the series back in 2014 and won the last two just a couple of weeks ago, improving to 10-4 all-time against the Saints. Olivia Zoeller tossed a no-hitter in the season-opener against St. Lawrence, striking out 14 of the 16 hitters she faced over five innings.

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-3, 4-0 Liberty League): Junior Kayla Robert has a hit in all 12 games this year, extending her hitting streak to 19 games dating back to the 2020 season. Robert is among the conference leaders in numerous offensive categories thanks to a slash line of .611/.667/.861 with a league-best 22 hits as well as 14 runs and 16 RBI. Classmate Maddie Brink has also started off on a hot streak with a .526/.537/.763 slash line. Senior Rylee LeBourveau was unlucky in her first nine games, going just 2-for-22, but the outfielder has found a groove in the last three games, going 7-for-10 with three triples and a double in that time. LeBourveau also has eight runs batted in over the last four games.

Key Stats for St. Lawrence (0-9, 0-6 Liberty League): The Saints have struggled so far in 2021, losing all nine of their contests by a combined score of 94-13. Skylar Hein has the highest OPS on the team at .860, hitting .273 with a .360 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles as well as a team-best six runs batted in. McKailey Lyndaker (.273) and Zola Braswell (.267) are also within striking distance of Hein's offensive numbers, but the Saints overall have had trouble at the plate, hitting .177/.266/.232. The Saints are also looking for some consistency from the pitching rubber, as staff has a combined 10.71 earned run average and 2.94 WHIP.
