Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Knights Fall at 16th-Ranked St. Lawrence, 14-8

Canton, NY – Two fast starts at the beginning of each half by St. Lawrence put the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team on the defensive as the Golden Knights had to play from behind throughout Wednesday's game, falling 14-8 to the Saints in Liberty League action.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the Liberty League while the 16th-ranked Saints moved to 6-2 and 4-2. Clarkson will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Skidmore College.

St. Lawrence got off to a hot start, scoring three times on its first three shots, including a pair of goals from Jack Hennessey, but Clarkson got on the scoreboard at the 9:53 mark when Conor Bartlett scored while the Knights were a man-up. The Golden Knights' defense settled in after that goal and allowed just one goal over the next 14 minutes, giving up one late in the first period. The Green and Gold used that time to climb back into the contest, as Pierce Currie scored at 13:37 in the second, and Matt Reilly and Connor Borchardt found the back of the net in the middle moments of the second. Borchardt's goal brought the Knights within one, but Peter Koch scored with 1:19 to go in the half to rebuild the Saints lead to two at the break.

Just like the start of the first half, the Saints rattled off three quick goals to begin the second and put Clarkson back by five until Bryan Penney scored at the 11:31 mark. St. Lawrence scored two more goals to gain a six-goal advantage until Pierce Currie and Penney scored back-to-back goals just 25 seconds apart late in the period to draw the Knights back within four. Clarkson's offense stalled in the fourth, however, as the Saints tacked on some insurance goals, with the Knights putting one more goal on the board late when Jay Considine tallied with 1:22 to go.

Bryan Penney and Pierce Currie each scored three points to lead the Knights, matching one another with two goals and an assist apiece. Matthew Hansen won 12 face-offs and also scooped up nine groundballs for Clarkson. Matt Yonko finished with 13 saves in 56 minutes of action in the Clarkson crease.

For St. Lawrence, Jack Hennessey produced six points on five goals and an assist and Mark Mahoney contributed four points with two goals and two assists. Brian Gannon also had five groundballs and caused three turnovers for the Saints.

St. Lawrence out shot Clarkson 52-23 and had a 46-28 advantage in groundballs. The two teams were essentially even on face-offs (14-12 in favor of SLU), but the Knights turned the ball over 29 times to St. Lawrence's 18.
