Knights Dominate Everywhere But Scoreboard in 16-9 Loss to SUNY Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Despite peppering the opposition with nearly 60 shots, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 16-9 decision to SUNY Potsdam in non-league action Monday evening.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-5 overall while Potsdam moved to 5-3 on the season. Clarkson begins the home stretch of the conference season on Wednesday when it hosts top-ranked RIT.

Clarkson controlled every part of the game except for the scoreboard, as Potsdam's goalkeeper Ben Fuchs was busy in the crease and made 23 saves before coming out late in the contest. The Knights outshot Potsdam 58-29, had more groundballs (50-37) and won 24 of the 28 face-off attempts.

The Knights were held to just one goal in the first period while Potsdam scored six times. Regrouping for the second quarter, Clarkson rifled 23 shots at the Potsdam cage but came away with just three goals and trailed by six at the break. The Knights outshot Potsdam in all but the third quarter where Clarkson trailed by just one, but the Bears ended up with a scoring advantage in the first three quarters while tying at 3-3 in the fourth. Clarkson also went 8-for-8 on face-offs in the second quarter and 7-for-7 at the 'x' in the fourth period.

Freshman Matt Reilly led the Knights with three points on two goals and an assist. Conor Bartlett also chipped in a goal and an assist while 10 other players notched one point.
