Knights Sweep SLU with 18-10 Win Saturday

Potsdam, NY – Junior Sydney Roderick scored three goals and found teammates for four more as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team completed its series sweep of St. Lawrence on Saturday with an 18-10 victory in Liberty League action at Hantz Field.

The Green and Gold improved to 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in the Liberty League and St. Lawrence fell to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference games. The Golden Knights will play another conference two-game series next weekend, hosting Union on Friday and traveling to Schenectady for Saturday's game.

The Golden Knights had a little trouble scoring in the early going on Saturday, but once the Green and Gold found a rhythm they put up a big number in the first half. Clarkson scored on a free position shot at 22:49 but didn't get another goal, off another free position shot, until 14:58. From that point on, however, Clarkson recorded seven goals in the final 12-plus minutes, including five in the last nine. As she did the previous day, Sydney Roderick found her teammates regularly, assisting on three goals with one going to Madelynn Barnum and two to Grace Hagberg. The Knights took advantage of their seven free position shots, scoring four times on such attempts.

The second half was more even as the two teams traded goals, though Clarkson had a double-digit advantage for three minutes midway through the period. St. Lawrence rallied to within eight on three occasions, but the two teams traded goals for the final 13 minutes and the final margin settled at eight.

Roderick finished with seven points, scoring three goals and assisting on four others, and Barnum added four goals and an assist for five points. Hagberg also scored four goals, while Julia Lavarnway, Kyrsten Stone, and Sophie Mangino each contributed three points. Sarah Duhaime picked up three groundballs, Hagberg led the team with six draw controls, and Anna Patterson had four draws and caused four turnovers. Emily Fischer made six saves and Sydney Christiansen stopped one shot in relief for the Knights.

For St. Lawrence, Kyle Murphy scored four times and Isabel Silvia scored two goals and an assist. Annie Vatcher also chipped in three groundballs and three caused turnovers while Jacqui Cloutier had four draws and two caused turnovers.
