Clarkson Picks Up First Conference Win of 2021 with 12-9 Victory Over Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY – Pierce Currie and Jay Considine connected for three goals and combined for four total as the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team picked up its first Liberty League win of the season against Vassar College, 12-9, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play while Vassar fell to 0-2 both overall and in conference games. Clarkson will face SUNY Potsdam in non-league action on Monday evening before getting back home to host top-ranked RIT next Wednesday.

The Knights rolled out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter with three goals separated by just over three minutes midway through the period thanks to Currie, Matt Reilly, and Tyler King. Vassar trimmed the margin to three in the second quarter, but a late goal from Sebastian Geiger returned the Clarkson advantage to four at the break.

Vassar put together a solid third quarter to keep the Knights from running away with the game, and a goal early in the fourth by the Brewers drew the home team back to within two. However, Geiger scored what would prove to be the game-winner at 12:20 while Considine found Currie at 9:23 to give Clarkson a bit more breathing room in the fourth quarter.

Currie had a team-best five points on three goals and two assists while also contributing four groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Bartlett (2-2-4) and Considine (1-3-4) were one point off Currie's pace. Geiger also found the twine three times for the Knights. Tyler King was busy with a goal, four groundballs, and two caused turnovers and Matt Szwagulinski caused three turnovers and chipped in four groundballs. On face-offs, Matthew Hansen won 12 of 17 attempts and had a team-best eight groundballs. Kevin Dyckman was solid in the Clarkson crease, stopping nine shots.

For Vassar, Maximus Albanese led the way with four points, scoring two goals and assisting on two others. Connor Deehan scored three goals and James Nicholas scored once and found his teammates for two assists. Adam Gallagher stopped 12 shots in a shade over 59 minutes for the Brewers.
