CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs. Norwich University (3/12)

Back at home for the last time in 2021, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team will begin a home-and-home series against Norwich University on Friday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

Prior to the start of Friday's game, the Golden Knights will honor senior Jason Phelps in his final collegiate home contest. The other seniors on the team have chosen to return to Clarkson next year.

The Series: Clarkson has a leg up on Norwich in the win column in 30 all-time meetings dating back to 1930, claiming victory in 16 contests. Only three of the 30 matchups have occurred in the last 50 years, however, all wins by the Cadets.

Key Stats for Clarkson (3-3): Sophomore Blake Gearhart has emerged in the last four games to take over the team's scoring lead, averaging 14.5 points per game overall and 16.8 points in that shorter stretch. He is shooting 55.2% from the field and 50.0% from the arc coming off the bench, yet leads the team in minutes per game (27.0 mpg). Senior Jason Phelps (13.8 ppg) and junior Chris Hulbert (13.5 ppg) are also recording double figures for the Knights, with Phelps shooting 45.2% from beyond the 3-point arc and going a flawless 13-for-13 from the free throw line. The Golden Knights opened the season averaging 95 points per game through four contests, but the last two games have seen Clarkson's offense slowed to 66 points per contest.

Key Stats for Norwich (0-4): This will mark the first trip out of Vermont in 2021 for the Cadets. Senior Donovan Lewis, Jr. leads the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game and is shooting an impressive 60.0% from the floor while classmate Jesse Davis is adding in 13.8 points per contest. Davis is shooting 48.3% from beyond the 3-point arc, but has been even better in his three starts, going 13-for-22 (59.1%) and averaging 16.7 points per contest over the last three games. Junior Spencer Conatser has also been strong from the 3-point line, going 8-for-13 (61.5%). The Cadets are scoring just under 77 points per game, but have allowed more than 90 per contest.
