The Clarkson Women's Hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at Appleton Arena this afternoon making tomorrows game a showdown for the #2 seed in the playoffs and home ice that comes with that seed.
The opening period saw St. Lawrence out shoot the Knights by a 12-7 margin but ended with a 0-0 score on the board. The second period had the Saints out shoot Clarkson 8 to 4 but still no goals scored on
Marie-Pier Coulombe or Lucy Morgan. Â
Early in the third period, St. Lawrence got on the board when Anna Segedi scored at the 1:06 mark. Clarkson was able to strike back as
Caitrin Lonergan scored her 14th of the season at 4:44 from David and Gosling. The Saints took the lead for good when Segedi got her second of the game at 9:47. Julia Gosling picked up assist on both goals.Â
The Knights got a power play late in the period but were not able to break through. They pulled their goalie just before the 2:00 mark for the extra attacker, but with :45 seconds left Gosling had to take down a Saint that was about to score in the empty net so the Knights had to finish down a player. The Knights were able to get Coulombe off again but did not get the equalizer. MP ended with 25 saves as the Knights were out shot 27-17.
The Knights will be back at Appleton tomorrow night at 7:00. Clarkson needs at least 2 points to keep hold on the 2nd seed and host next Friday. The Knights cannot finish lower than 3rd, so a loss in regulation or OT, will send them to Appleton as the #3 seed.Â
