Hulbert Strikes for 24 in Loss at BSC

Buffalo, NY - Junior Chris Hulbert scored 24 points in 31 minutes, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team was on the short end of a 24-7 deficit in made free throws as the Golden Knights fell to Bryant & Stratton 86-78 on Saturday afternoon.

BSC moved to 4-2 on the season while Clarkson opened its campaign with the loss.

As has been the case for the past few seasons, the Knights relied heavily on the 3-point shot and made 11 long-range jumpers in the game, but the team was just 7-for-13 from the free throw line. BSC was the exact opposite, getting to the line 32 times and converting 24, while attempting only one more 3-pointer than Clarkson made in the contest. 

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead thanks to a strong effort inside the arc, shooting 17-for-23 on two-point field goal attempts (while going 2-for-9 from the 3-point line) and shot 59.4% overall (19-for-32). BSC cooled off in the second half, but went 17-for-23 from the free throw line to keep the Knights at a safe distance. Clarkson was within three on a couple of possessions late in the game but came up short down the stretch.

Hulbert finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-for-19 shooting, including four makes from the 3-point line, while senior Roburt Welch tossed in 13 points, going 6-for-11 from the floor. Sophomore Blake Gearhart added nine points off the bench and classmate Dante Joefield scored eight points on 4-for-5 shooting and added in four assists and four steals for the Knights. 

For the Bobcats, Eric Waters scored 20 points with an 8-for-13 effort from the field while also chipping in four steals. Three other BSC starters finished in double figures as Sam Dorissaint scored 15 and Danny Turkvan and Shyquinn Dix each added 13 points.
