Women's Lacrosse | 3/22/2019 6:25:00 AM

With two straight close defeats, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team is looking to shift momentum in the other direction. The Golden Knights return to Liberty League action this weekend when the team heads to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY to face Bard College.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The Golden Knights have never been seriously challenged by Bard since the rivalry began when the Raptors joined the Liberty League in 2012. Clarkson is 7-0 all-time, outscoring Bard 129-35 overall. The Knights have won by double figures in six of the seven contests, including a 19-3 edge in 2018.

Key Stats for Clarkson (2-4, 0-1 Liberty League): Although the Knights are two games under .500, Clarkson has actually outscored its opponents 73-72, enduring three close losses. Part of Clarkson's issues come from free-position opportunities as the Knights have converted 18 of 61 chances while opponents are 17-for-35. Even a modest uptick in that category could have pushed Clarkson over the top in all three of its close games. Juniors Katie Sergeant and Abby Collins are closing the gap to 100 career points, as Sergeant is only 11 away and Collins is 16 points away from the century mark. Senior Jaid Baytos enjoyed a big game against Rowan with seven points, and she now sits by herself in seventh place on Clarkson's all-time scoring list with 145 points (110-35-145). She has five career goals against Bard, while Sergeant has also scored five times in two games against the Raptors. Abby Collins is the team's current leader against Bard with eight points on six goals and two assists in two games.

Key Stats for Bard (4-2, 0-1 Liberty League): With all due respect to the Raptors, it is difficult to tell if their 4-2 record is a product of a weak schedule or an improved level of talent on the roster. In all likelihood it is a combination of both, as the Raptors have beaten up on some poor opponents (Bard's four wins are against teams with a combined record of 2-15) but nevertheless gained larger margins of victory than since just last year against the same teams. With nothing but conference opponents remaining on the schedule time will tell. Most of Bard's top players returned from a year ago and many are already close to last season's output. Melissa Rosenthal (22-12-34) is four points ahead of last year's total, while Caleigh DeCaprio (20-9-29) is within four points. Nicole Ellin (8-12-20) is just three behind last year's mark and Casey Witte (14-2-16) is nine behind her total from a year ago. Izabel Kickner is allowing just 7.67 goals per game, however, she owns only a .370 save percentage.
