Little went right for the Clarkson University Softball team last year. On top of graduating its first four-year class which included three all-stars, the Golden Knights saw one of its returning all-stars miss the entire season due to injury and the Green and Gold lost five one-run games. However, a strong recruiting class joins several returning standouts for the 2019 season, and the Knights have their eyes on a trip to the Liberty League Tournament in May.

Clarkson opens its season for the fourth straight year in Maryland, playing games against Washington College (MD) and Salisbury University.

2019 Schedule

2018 Statistics

Last Year: Clarkson graduated two hitters at the top of its lineup in Summer Lancette and Bridget Woolley. While Woolley enjoyed a solid senior year with a .289/.363/.330 batting line and 17 runs driven in, Lancette often carried the load offensively with a .419/.486/.624 slash line. She was picked as a Liberty League First-Team All-Star and became Clarkson's second all-region selection, finishing the year with team-bests in hits (39), extra-base hits (12), runs batted in (20), and total bases (58) while fielding .985 with just one error in the outfield.

Key Returners: While Lancette is a considerable loss on offense, the Golden Knights will return graduate student Raeanna Dunn, who missed her senior year with an injury at the end of the basketball season. Dunn is a three-time Liberty League First-Team All-Star with a career .369 batting average and 57 stolen bases, not to mention a sure-handed shortstop who fielded .960 in 2017. Joining Dunn as fourth-year collegians are first baseman Liz Caggiano and pitcher Sam Mennig. Caggiano batted .286 in 26 games last season while Mennig hit .281 with a team-best 45 strikeouts in the circle. Junior catcher Michele Winn is the team's top returning power threat with 10 career home runs, already the program record, and classmates Danielle Whitham and Kyrstin Messier have each logged plenty of field time in their first two seasons with the Knights. Leah Allen, another junior, threw a team-high 83.1 innings last year and whiffed 43 hitters. Sophomore Hannah Bowen played shortstop last year in place of Dunn and will slide over to see some time at second base as well as in the outfield. Bowen ranked second on the team in all three hitting categories (.318/.385/.482) behind Lancette. Fellow sophomore Rylee LeBourveau will also see increased time in the outfield to utilize her speed and strong arm.

Newcomers: The Golden Knights welcome eight new players to the fold in 2019 with hopes that they will contribute immediately. Olivia Zoeller will be one of the team's starting pitchers and can also play the outfield while Maddie Brink's bat will find its way into the lineup regularly. Clarkson added plenty of depth to the pitching corps in addition to Zoeller, with Sarah Vaccaro, Sam Short, and Emily McBath looking to eat up innings. Amanda Riley, Alyssa Schaechinger and Kayla Robert will serve as utility players around the diamond and should see time right away as well.
