Knights Drop 74-44 Decision to SLU

Potsdam, NY – Tough conclusions to the second and third quarters saw the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team fall too far behind to manage a comeback as the Golden Knights dropped a 74-44 decision to St. Lawrence in Liberty League action Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to even at 4-4 overall and dropped to 0-3 in the Liberty League, while St. Lawrence drew to .500 at 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference games. Clarkson is off until January, when it will face Morrisville State.

Clarkson held a modest one-point advantage through the first six-plus minutes after a Molly Stewart layup, but St. Lawrence ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 12-7 lead through 10 minutes. The next quarter saw the two teams remain close with Clarkson pulling to within two at the 4:31 mark when Rachel Marion hit a 3-pointer, but that was the last time the Knights would be close. St. Lawrence ended the quarter on a 17-2 run, shooting 6-for-9 over the final four-plus minutes while Clarkson went 1-for-5 with two turnovers.

The third quarter was a lot like the second, as Clarkson stuck with St. Lawrence for the first few minutes and were separated by just 14 points. However, the Knights were on the short end of a 14-2 run in a four-minute span and were nearly doubled up (54-28). The Green and Gold trailed by 27 through three quarters, pulled to within 23 early in the fourth, but the team scored just four points over the final eight minutes and succumbed to the Saints by 30.

St. Lawrence's bench outscored Clarkson 29-2 and the Saints used their size advantage for 29 points in the paint.

Hannah Earl finished with a team-best 14 points while also snagging six rebounds for the Golden Knights, while Molly Stewart contributed 12 points and four boards. For St. Lawrence, Katie Frederick was one rebound short of a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds and Olivia Barringer chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. Ava McCann also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points while also finding her teammates for four assists.
