10/31/2019 9:54:00 AM

ECAC Hockey play is back for Clarkson Women's Hockey as the Golden Knights open the 2019-20 campaign on the road in NY's Capital District region. Clarkson will face off against Union at Messa Rink in Schenectady on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and then take on Rensselaer at Houston Field House in Troy on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

The Knights, guided by 12th-year Head Coach Matt Desrosier and assistants Britni Smith and Tony Maci, hold a 5-1-2 overall record in non-league play through late September and October. Ranked 5/6th in the national polls, the Green and Gold have played just three games in Potsdam and are coming off a tie (1-1) and win (7-0) over Lindenwood at Cheel Arena this past weekend.

Led by senior Captain Ella Shelton and Assistant Captains, senior Taylor Turnquist and junior Meaghan Hector, Clarkson will return home next weekend to open a four-game home stand against Central NY rivals Colgate and Cornell.

• Clarkson's offense is once again ranked among the most productive in the nation, averaging 3.75 goals per game, 11th in the country. The Knights are coming off a convincing 7-0 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday, scoring their most goals since a 9-1 win at Brown last November.
• Defensively, the Green and Gold are ranked 16th in the NCAA, allowing 2.12 goals per game. Clarkson allowed just one goal through 125 minutes of action against Lindenwood over the weekend.
• The Knights are 2-0-1 at home, outscoring the opponents 13-2.
• On the road, Clarkson is 3-1-1 with a slight 15-15 edge in goals.
• A two-time All-American and a Top 10 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Finalist, Elizabeth Giguere leads Clarkson in scoring with 15 points (6-9). The junior right wing tallied two goals and three points in Saturday's win over Lindenwood. She scored her second shorthanded goal of the season and seventh shorty of her career in the win and also picked up her 100th career assist. She rankes fourth on the Knights' all-time scoring list with 159 points and 59 goals through 89 games.
Gabrielle David looks to continue the long line of standout freshmen at Clarkson. She is second for the Green and Gold in scoring with 13 points (4-9).
• Senior center Michaela Pejzlova has 11 points (4-7). Fifth on the Knights' all-time scoring charts, Pejzlova has amassed 153 points (60-93) in 126 games.
• Senior wing Rhyen McGill, who missed all of last season and three games this season with injuries, recorded her second two-goal of the year with a pair of first-period scores in the win over Lindenwood. McGill is closing in on the century mark with 88 points (45-43) through 126 games.
• Sophomore Marie-Pier Coulombe posted her second career shutout behind 14 saves in Saturday's win.  She posts a .920 save percentage and a 1.69 goals against average en route to a 3-1-1 record.

Series Union: Clarkson has dominated the all-time series against Union going 30-1-0 and has outscored the Dutchwomen 148-19. The Golden Knights are currently on a 15-game winning streak against Union, with their only loss coming in the 2011-12 season where the Dutchwomen fought to a 2-1 win in Schenectady. The Golden Knights swept the season series last year winning 5-1 at Cheel Arena and 6-0 at Union. Michaela Pejzlova and Elizabeth Giguere have been dominant against Union during their respective careers, tallying 11 points apiece on four goals and seven assists each. Pejzlova scored three goals and tallied four assists in two games last year while Giguere scored two goals and had four helpers in those games. Marie-Pier Coulombe, who made her first career start against the Dutchwomen last November, has played two games against Union and has a 0.50 goals against average with a .974 save percentage. She also recorded her first career shutout in Clarkson's 6-0 road win over Union.

Series RPI: The Golden Knights are 25-5-2 all-time against RPI and have outscored the Engineers 120-47 in 32 games. Clarkson has won nine games in a row against RPI and are 8-2-2 versus the Engineers in Troy. Clarkson swept the season series last year winning 3-0 at Cheel Arena and 5-1 on the road. Michaela Pejzlova has been excellent versus RPI in her career, scoring six goals and tallying four assists for 10 points. Pejzlova made an impact during her freshman campaign with one goal and one assist in the ECAC Quarterfinals against the Engineers. Rhyen McGill has served as a playmaker in eight games against RPI, earning seven assists overall, including one assist in game two of the ECAC Quarterfinals in the 2016-17 season. None of the Golden Knight goaltenders have played against RPI.

Scouting Union: Union has struggled out of the gate in the 2019-20 season with a 0-6-1 record thus far. Much like Clarkson, the Dutchwomen have played a trio of College Hockey America foes. Union has gone 0-4-1 against the likes of Robert Morris, Lindenwood, and Syracuse, whereas the Golden Knights went 4-0-2 against the same opponents. This will be Union's third game against a top 10-ranked foe at home, having fallen to fourth-ranked Northeastern (5-0) and eighth-ranked Boston University (2-1) in early October. The Dutchwomen will be on short rest after playing Syracuse this past Tuesday in Schenectady, losing 5-0 to the Orange. Union has been unable to find the net with much frequency this year, ranking 40th of 41 teams in Division I hockey with 0.71 goals per game. The Dutchwomen have also averaged 4.00 goals against per game, tied for 35th in the nation. Senior forward Katelynn Russ and freshman defenseman Olivia Groulx each have scored two goals this season to lead the team. Both Russ and Groulx are also tied for the team's top figure in points with three. Freshman goalie Bella McKee has started four times for Union and has played in six of their seven games, going 0-3-1 and amassing a .936 save percentage and a 2.53 goals against average. Senior Amelia Murray has started the other three contests and has a 0-3-0 record with a .810 save percentage and a 7.95 goals against average.

Scouting RPI: Rensselaer is off to a rough start this season and is 0-6-1 through seven games. The Engineers have struggled mightily on offense, ranking last in the nation in goals per game at 0.43 goals per game. The only team to score fewer than RPI's three total goals so far is Brown University, which has played only two games compared to the Engineers seven. Although RPI is struggling to score, its scoring defense ranks 24th in the nation at 2.71 goals allowed per game. The Engineers did not score their first goal until their fourth game of the season in a 2-1 loss against Merrimack College, and they would not score another goal for 22 days when the team tallied twice against Holy Cross, a 2-2 tie. Junior Morgan Ondrick and defenseman Kendra Farole each have a team-high two points, with Ondrick, Sabrina Repaci, and Lauren Severson each accounting for one of the team's three goals. After graduating the school's all-time saves leader and top-10 Patty Kazmaier finalist in Lovisa Selander, the Engineers have brought in two promising young goalies. Much like Selander who averaged 34.09 shots against during her tenure, RPI's freshmen goalies have faced a high volume of shots. Ena Nystrom has already faced 185 shots (46.25 per game) and has made 175 saves (43.75 per game). Nystrom has a 0-3-1 record with an impressive .946 save percentage and a 2.46 goals against average. Classmate Amanda Rampado has played in three games facing 113 shots (37.67 per game) and has made 104 saves (34.67 per game). Rampado is 0-3-0 with a .920 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average.
