10/17/2019 9:32:00 AM

With a weekend off behind them, the Golden Knights will be back on the road again as Clarkson travels to Pittsburgh, PA to take on 10th-ranked Robert Morris of College Hockey America in a two-game series. Clarkson battles the Colonials on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and again on Saturday with a 3:05 p.m. faceoff.

Guided by 12th-year Head Coach Matt Desrosiers and assistants Britni Smith and Tony Maci, the Knights are ranked fourth in the latest national polls. Clarkson, which has played three of its first four games on the road, owns a 3-1 record.

In its last action, Clarkson split a weekend series at Minnesota-Duluth on October 4-5, defeating the Top-10 ranked Bulldogs 4-2 before suffering a 2-0 shutout. The Knights opened their 17th season of play with a home-and-home sweep of Syracuse on September 27-28, edging the Orange 4-3 in Central NY and skating to a 5-1 victory in its lone game at Cheel Arena so far this season.

Clarkson, led by senior captain Ella Shelton and assistants, senior Taylor Turnquist and junior Meaghan Hector, will play Lindenwood University for the first time ever when the Green and Gold host the Lions at Cheel on October 25-26. The Knights are back on the road the following weekend when they open ECAC Hockey play at Union and Rensselaer to start the month of November.

The Series:
The Golden Knights and Colonials have faced off eight times prior to this series, with Clarkson holding a 6-1-1 edge. The Green and Gold opened up the home portion of the 2018-19 schedule with a pair of games against Robert Morris, holding off the pesky Colonials 4-2 and 4-3 in early October 2018, as each game saw the visitors pull to within a goal late in the third period. Senior Ella Shelton posted four assists in the series while junior Elizabeth Giguere scored twice and assisted on a third goal. The two teams also have recent history from the 2016-17 season when they battled to a 3-3 tie in the Windjammer Classic, held at the University of Vermont. Senior Michaela Pejzlova, a freshman at the time, scored the first goal of the game and added an assist in the second period. Senior assistant captain Taylor Turnquist also scored her first collegiate goal against the Colonials in the game as well.

Scouting Robert Morris:
Robert Morris is 2-2-0 on the young season after losing consecutive games to Minnesota last weekend. The Colonials opened up their season against Union College, beating the Dutchwomen handily, 6-1 and 5-0. Following up that series sweep, Robert Morris nearly knocked off the Gophers last Friday taking them to overtime at 3-3. Former Golden Knight Michaela Boyle tied the game up with 51 seconds left in regulation, but took a crucial hooking call 26 seconds into the overtime period, and Minnesota took full advantage of the extra-skater chance in its 4-3 win. The Gophers came back strong the next day, netting six goals in against the Colonials. Robert Morris's offense is led by Jaycee Gebhard and Lexi Templeman, with each player accounting for nine points through four contests this season. Gebhard has a team-leading four goals and five assists, while Templeman has scored once and tallied a team-high eight assists. Michaela Boyle, a member of Clarkson's 2018 National Championship team, has made an impact since transferring to Robert Morris, scoring three goals and one assist. The Colonials have split time nearly 50/50 between two goalies in four contests this year. Freshman Raygan Kirk and sophomore Arielle DeSmet each have a 1-1-0 record, with both recording a win over Union and a loss against Minnesota. Kirk has a .919 save percentage and a 2.48 goals against average, while DeSmet has a .900 save percentage and a 3.02 goals against average with one shutout.
