Knights Take 6-Game Win Streak on the Road for Key ECAC Hockey Games

Owning the nation's longest current winning streak, Clarkson University will look to extend its six-game roll and make a move for the top spot in the ECAC Hockey standings as it takes to the road for a key weekend of conference action.

Guided by 11th-year head coach Matt Desrosiers and assistants Britni Smith and Tony Maci, the Golden Knights face off at Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. contest, and then take on league-leading Princeton in New Jersey on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Ranked fifth in the national polls, Clarkson has reached the 20-win mark for the eighth consecutive season with a 20-5-1 overall record. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Green and Gold are in third place in ECAC Hockey, three points shy of first, with an 11-3 conference slate.

• The Golden Knights lead the all-time series 22-12-4 against Quinnipiac, with wins in four of the last five meetings. The Knights' three-game winning streak against the Bobcats was snapped with a 3-2 overtime loss in November 2017 at Cheel Arena, where the Green and Gold hold an 11-8-2 advantage. Clarkson bounced back in February 2018 with a 2-0 win on the road. 
• Clarkson holds a 17-12-2 record over Princeton. The Knights were riding a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) against the Tigers until February of last season when the Green and Gold dropped a 2-0 decision in New Jersey. Saturday's game will be the most important between the two teams since the 2016-17 season when the two faced off in the ECAC semifinals. Clarkson came out on top 4-0 in that playoff game at Cheel Arena, a spot where the Knights hold a modest 9-7-1 record over the Tigers. 
• Hitting stride as it challenges for a third consecutive ECAC Hockey regular-season championship, the Knights have been dominant in league play to start the New Year, outscoring its opponents 30-6 during its current six-game winning streak.
• Dating back to an early December home-and-home sweep of St. Lawrence, the Green and Gold have won eight straight league games, outscoring their conference foes 37-7 during that span in ECAC Hockey play.
• This past weekend, Clarkson posted a pair of 4-2 victories over Harvard and Dartmouth to improve its record at Cheel Arena to 13-0-0.
• The Knights are 7-4 this season on opponent's home ice.
• Clarkson boasts the second most potent offense in Division I, averaging 4.00 goals per game.
• Defensively the Green and Gold are tied for eighth in Division I, allowing only 1.85 goals per game.
• The Knights' scoring margin is fourth in the country at 2.15.
• The Knights are  16-0-1 when scoring first and 19-0 when leading through 40 minutes.
• Clarkson has outscored the opponents 50-14 in the second period.
• Headlining the Green and Gold attack are three of the top four scorers in Division I. Senior left wing Loren Gabel leads the nation in goals with 25 and points with 49. Sophomore right wing Elizabeth Giguere is right behind her linemate with 48 points and is second in the country in assists with 29. Junior center Michaela Pejzlova is fourth in the NCAA in points with 42 and tied as Division I's third leading playmaker with 26 assists.
• Averaging over two points per game, Gabel has tallied 49 points (25-24) through 24 games. She is coming off consecutive record-setting weekends at Cheel Arena when she moved atop the Knights' all-time points list by scoring just eight seconds into the 5-1 win over  Yale (1/18) and surpassed 100 career goals in Friday's victory over Harvard.  Through 146 career games, Gabel has amassed 193 points on 101 goals and 92 assists, surpassing 2014 Patty Kazmaier winner Jamie Lee Rattray '14 (181 points) on the Green and Gold's scoring charts. The 2018 Top Three Patty Kazmaier Finalist was named NCAA 1st Star of the Week and ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after her seven-point (3-4) weekend, and ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for January.
• Giguere, who tallied three assists in the win over Dartmouth, has recorded 19 goals and 29 assists through 26 games. She is steadily moving up the Clarkson all-time scoring lists and looks to challenge Gabel's records before her collegiate career is over. Through just 67 games, she has tallied 119 points on 46 goals and 73 assists. Giguere has scored a Clarkson record five shorthanded goals this season, which is more than 37 NCAA teams have recorded in 2018-19. The 2018 All-American has also tallied three power-play goals, three game-winners and posts a nation-high +41 plus/minus rating.
• Centering the top line in college hockey, Pejzlova has 42 points on 16 goals and 26 assists, and has accumulated 129 career points (53-76) in 104 games. Pejzlova has a six-game point streak with four goals and six assists during the current winning streak. She is tied for the team lead in power-play goals with four.
• Graduate transfer T.T. Cianfarano has been a nice addition to the Clarkson lineup,  recording 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists. She has an eight-game points streak (4-4) and shares the team-lead in power-play tallies (4) to go along with one shorthanded marker and four game-winners.
• Junior defenseman Ella Shelton enjoyed a big weekend on the blueline in the weekend sweep. She scored one goal an added an assist in the win over Harvard and matched her career-high for goals in a game with a pair of power-play scores in the victory over Dartmouth.
• Backstopping Clarkson, graduate transfer Kassidy Sauve posts a .930 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average en route to a 17-4-1 record and four shutouts through 22 starts.

Loren Gabel, Michaela Pejzlova, Elizabeth Giguere, and Ella Shelton each have only two points against Quinnipiac.

Despite going scoreless against the Tigers last year, Loren Gabel has put up a team-best nine points (6-3) against Princeton in seven career games.  

Scouting Quinnipiac: Quinnipiac holds a 9-14-3 overall record and a conference mark of 6-7-1good for seventh place in the standings. The Bobcats record is deceiving due to their tough schedule. Quinnipiac is 9-6-3 in games against unranked opponents, and is 0-8 in games versus ranked squads. The Bobcats have actually played better on the road this season than at home, posting a record of 5-5-2 away from Hamden, CT. Quinnipiac has not played a league game since it lost on back-to-back nights against ninth-ranked Colgate and fourth-ranked Cornell in mid-January. The Bobcats just completed a nine-game road trip with three straight non-conference games, beating Sacred Heart 2-1 and splitting a series against Minnesota Duluth (3-1 loss on Friday, 2-1 win on Saturday). 

Scouting Princeton: Princeton looks to be back on track to win 20 games after going .500 last season. The fourth-ranked Tigers own a 14-2-5 record and are 11-0-3 in the ECAC, sitting atop the conference standings by two points over second-place Cornell. Princeton began its season on the road against then second-ranked Wisconsin, losing 4-3 and 3-0. Since those defeats, the Tigers are unbeaten in 19 straight games (14-0-5). In its last conference games, Princeton beat fourth-rated Cornell, 5-0, in Ithaca, and then skated to a 4-4 tie against ninth-ranked Colgate. Following a weekend off, the Tigers defeated Penn State 4-2 on Tuesday.
