Clarkson Looks For Successful Close to 4-Game Home Stand

Hitting stride as it challenges for a third consecutive ECAC Hockey regular-season championship, Clarkson University has been dominant in league play to start the New Year, outscoring its opponents 22-2 during its current four-game winning streak.

Guided by 11th-year head Coach Matt Desrosiers and assistants Britni Smith and Tony Maci, the Golden Knights close out a four-game home stand this weekend at Cheel Arena hosting Harvard on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Dartmouth on Saturday at 3:00 p.m..

Clarkson is in a two-way tie for third place in the ECAC Hockey standings with s 9-3 league mark, seven points behind league-leader Princeton, but with two games in hand on the Tigers. Ranked fifth in the national polls, the Green and Gold own an 18-5-1 overall record.

After this weekend, Clarkson will have eight games remaining in the regular season, four at home and four on the road, beginning with a key weekend at Quinnipiac and Princeton on February 1-2.

• The Golden Knights trail the all-time series against Harvard 13-18-5, but are currently riding a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3). Clarkson won both matchups a season ago with scores of 3-1 in each game. The Green and Gold are 6-6-3 against Harvard at Cheel Arena, but are undefeated against the Crimson in Potsdam dating back to the 2013-14 season (3-0-1).
• Clarkson holds a 20-10-5 advantage all-time against Dartmouth. The Knights have won 19 of the last 25 matchups and have not lost to the Big Green since the 2010-11 season. The Green and Gold are currently on a five-game winning streak against Dartmouth and have not allowed the Big Green to score more than one goal in any of those games. 
• Clarkson improved its record at Cheel Arena to 11-0 with a dominating sweep of Yale and Brown this past weekend. The Knights avenged a 5-1 loss to Yale earlier in the season by returning the favor with a 5-1 victory on Saturday. The Green and Gold gained their fifth shutout of the season with a 6-0 whitewash of the Bears on Saturday.
• Clarkson boasts the second most potent offenses in Division I, averaging 4.00 goals per game.
• Defensively the Green and Gold ranked seventh in Division I, allowing only 1.83 goals per game.
• The Knights' scoring margin is third in the country at 2.17.
• The Knights are  15-0-1 when scoring first and17-0 when leading through 40 minutes.
• Clarkson has outscored the opponents 47-14 in the second period.
• Clarkson is 16-0-0 when scoring four-or-more goals.
• The Knights have scored the most shorthanded goals in the country with seven.
• Headlining the Green and Gold attack are the top three scorers in Division I. Senior left wing Loren Gabel is the nation's leading goal scorer with 22 . Sophomore right wing Elizabeth Giguere has tallied a Division I-high 45 points. Junior center Michaela Pejzlova is the NCAA's third leading playmker with 25 assists.
• Averaging almost two points per game, Gabel has tallied 42 points (22-20) through 22 games. She is coming off a record setting weekend at Cheel Arena when she moved atop the Knights' all-time points list by scoring just eight seconds into Friday's win over Yale. Through 144 career games, Gabel has amassed 186 points on 98 goals and 88 assists, surpassing 2014 Patty Kazmaier winner Jamie Lee Rattray '14 on the Green and Gold's scoring charts. The 2018 Top Three Patty Kazmaier Finalist was named NCAA 2nd Star of the Week after her five-point (3-2) weekend. 
• Giguere also enjoyed a remarkable weekend at Cheel in the sweep of the Ivy foes. She recorded her first career hat trick, which included two shorthanded tallies, in the victory over Yale, and scored the game-winner along with an assist in the Saturday's triumph over Brown. Giguere has recorded 19 goals and 26 assists through 24 games. She is steadily moving up the Clarkson all-time scoring lists and looks to challenge Gabel's records before her collegiate career is over. Through just 65 games, she has tallied 116 points on 46 goals and 70 assists. Giguere has scored a Clarkson record five shorthanded goals this season, which is more than 38 NCAA teams have recorded in 2018-19. All five of her shorthanded goals have come in ECAC Hockey play, equaling the number of power-play goals the Knights have scored in conference action. The 2018 All-American also tallied three power-play goals, three game-winners and posts a nation-high +40 plus/minus rating.
• Centering the top line in college hockey, Pejzlova is tied for fourth in the NCAA for points per game (1.67). She has 40 points on 15 goals and 25 assists, and has
accumulated 127 career points (52-75) in 102 games. Pejzlova is coming off a five-point weekend, including three assists in Saturday's win over Brown.
• Graduate transfer T.T. Cianfarano has been a nice addition to the Clarkson lineup,  recording 26 points on 13 goals and 13 assists.
• Freshman forward Taylor Sawka scored her first career goal in the win over Brown, while classmate Miranda Gaudet record her first career point with an assist in the win
• Backstopping Clarkson, graduate transfer Kassidy Sauve posts a .929 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average en route to a 15-4-1 record and four shutouts (tied for 4th in the nation) through 20 starts. 
• The Knights are 11-0 at Cheel Arena, 7-4 on opponents' home ice and 0-1-1 at neutral site showings. 

Series Harvard: The Golden Knights trail the all-time series against Harvard 13-18-5, but are currently riding a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3). The Green and Gold are 6-6-3 against Harvard at Cheel Arena, but are undefeated in Potsdam dating back to the 2013-14 season (3-0-1). Loren Gabel and Michaela Pejzlova lead the way offensively against Harvard. Gabel has scored a team-leading seven points on three goals and four assists against the Crimson, while Pejzlova has five points in only three games against Harvard, scoring once and assisting on four goals.

Series Dartmouth: Clarkson holds a 20-10-5 advantage all-time against Dartmouth. The Knights have won 19 of the last 25 matchups and have not lost to the Big Green since the 2010-11 season. The Green and Gold are currently on a five-game winning streak against Dartmouth and have not allowed the Big Green to score more than one goal in any of those games. In six career games, Loren Gabel leads the way with five goals and six assists against. Elizabeth Giguere did plenty of damage last season against Dartmouth, scoring three times and tallying four assists in just two games.

Scouting Harvard: Harvard holds a record of 5-10-2 overall and is eighth in the ECAC with a conference record of 4-7-1. A tough schedule plays a large part in the Crimson's subpar record, as Harvard has played seven games against top-10 opponents, going 0-7 in those contests. Harvard is just a game under .500 at home, but the Crimson are only 1-5-2 on the road. This past weekend, Harvard faced a tough test going up against a pair of top-10 ranked foes, losing at home to eight-ranked Colgate (4-2) and to seventh-ranked Cornell (6-0). Kristen Della Rovere and Lexie Laing lead the Crimson in scoring with 11 points apiece. Lindsay Reed has started 16 of the Crimson's 17 games, going 5-9-2 with an impressive 1.91 goals against average and a .945 save percentage.   

Scouting Dartmouth: The Big Green brings a 3-15-1 overall record and 2-10 ECAC slate into the North Country prior to Friday's game at St. Lawrence. Dartmouth is currently on an eight-game losing streak and has not won a game dating back to late November. Dartmouth is 1-0 on the road with its only victory coming at Quinnipiac (3-2 OT). This past weekend the Big Green fell to two top-10 teams, losing 3-0 to Cornell and 5-1 to Colgate. Scoring is a trouble spot for the Big Green as Tess Bracken (4-4) and Sara McClanahan (3-5) are the top scorers with just eight points each. Christine Honor has played in 16 games posting a record of 3-12-1 with a save percentage of .897 and a goals against average of 3.16.
