CU Women's Soccer Preview - vs. Ithaca College (9/22)

After seven non-league contests, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team will finally open the long and arduous Liberty League schedule, opening up conference play against Ithaca College on Saturday at Hantz Turf Field.

The Series: From 1989 to 2006, Ithaca won 18 straight meetings against the Golden Knights, but thanks to goals from Camryn Careccia and Madison Kather in 2017, Clarkson beat the Bombers 2-1 in their first conference match up in more than two decades.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-2-1): Elyse Green took Wednesday night off when the Golden Knights played SUNY Canton, but the junior goalkeeper has been solid through six outings thus far in 2018. She ranks first in the conference in saves per game (4.50) and is second in save percentage (.871) while sporting a 0.70 goals against average. Her two shutouts this year pushed her to double digits, making her just the fifth Clarkson goalkeeper to reach 10, and her 16 victories are tied for fourth all-time among the Green and Gold netminders. Classmate Giulia Mahoney leads the Knights with 12 points on four goals and four assists, ranking first in total points and third in points per game (1.71) in the conference. Her four assists are tied for first as well.

Key Stats for Ithaca (6-0-1): The Bombers are receiving votes in the latest d3soccer.com poll and are unbeaten through seven contests in 2018, outscoring opponents 20-3. Though nine of those goals came in one game against Elmira, Ithaca is nevertheless a solid offensive team with numerous scoring options. Shoshana Bedrosian leads the team with five goals, scoring on just 12 shots overall. Alex Epifani and Ally Christman are each tied for the conference lead in assists with four, with Epifani ranking second in the team in scoring at eight points (2-4-8). Gabriella Mihale (3-1-7), Stella Campodonico (3-0-6) and Christman (1-4-6) also have contributed to the offense. Sara Jakobsze is second in the league in goals against average (0.44) and third in save percentage (.864).
