CU Softball Preview - at University of Rochester (4/24)

Moved up a day because of weather issues midweek, the Clarkson University Softball team looks to keep its modest winning streak of two going against the University of Rochester on Tuesday as the teams make up a conference doubleheader in Rochester, NY.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: Clarkson lost the first six games of the series against the Yellowjackets, including three by run-rule, but the Golden Knights swept last year's doubleheader 3-1 and 6-3.

Key Stats for Clarkson (7-20-1, 2-6 Liberty League): The Golden Knights have been shutout in 25 percent of their games this season, but it appears as if the Green and Gold solved their offensive issues on Sunday at RIT, pounding out 19 hits for 14 runs in 13 innings. Summer Lancette leads the team with a .397/.471/.548 slash line and she has been particularly effective against Rochester in the last two years, going 8-for-12 at the plate with four stolen bases. The next two best hitters for the Knights haven't ever faced Rochester. Junior transfer Kat Plescow enters the game with a .371/.418/.371 batting line while Hannah Bowen is batting .307/.390/.466 with team-highs in walks (11) and total bases (41).

Key Stats for Rochester (11-14, 4-4 Liberty League): The Yellowjackets are on a roll recently, winning three straight and four of their last five, including a split against Ithaca and sweep of St. Lawrence. However, Rochester is still struggling at the plate, hitting .222/.312/.338 as a team. Lydia Petricca (.292/.346/.417) and Gianna Melillo (.290/.384/.532, four home runs) are the only two hitters batting better than .270 this season. Hannah Leahy gets the bulk of the innings for Rochester, tossing 104.1 frames and she has a 3.42 earned run average. Her team is fielding .952 behind her, which has reduced some of the impact of the 214 baserunners she has allowed, giving up a .339/.419/.445 line with 47 strikeouts.
