Knights Earn Third Straight Lopsided Win

Potsdam, NY – With nine straight goals to open the game, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team enjoyed an early cushion over Bard College, finishing with a 19-3 victory in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in league play with their third straight victory. The Raptors saw their overall mark evened at 2-2 and fell to 0-2 in conference games.

With less than ideal playing conditions with the temperature sitting in the high 20s, it took some time for the Clarkson offense to warm up as the Knights tallied just twice in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, in the middle of the first half, Clarkson rattled off seven more goals to gain a 9-0 lead by the 12:45 mark when Katie Sergeant converted for the second time in the game. Each of the first nine goals were unassisted as Clarkson had too much speed up front for Bard to counter, as the Knights' offensive players either outraced their opponents to the cage or were fouled and awarded free position attempts.

Bard stopped the run with its first goal at the 9:17 mark, but Emma Andrews scored twice to keep the clock moving and Jaid Baytos and Natalie Farnett tacked on goals to push the advantage to 12 by the break.

After the first few minutes had expired in the second half, Clarkson emptied its bench. Four first-year members of the Golden Knights scored in the final 20 minutes, including Adeline Danyla, who recorded her first collegiate goal in the final minute.

Clarkson overwhelmed the Raptors in shots (47-11), shots on goal (36-7), groundballs (29-12), and draw controls (16-7). The Knights also denied Bard the opportunity to clear the ball on 12 of 21 attempts.

Sophomore Emma Andrews recorded four goals, two groundballs and two caused turnovers in the win, while sophomores Abby Collins and Katie Sergeant and junior Jaid Baytos each tallied three goals, with Baytos also earning six draws. Sophomore Lexi Smith led the team with four groundballs and senior Taylor Collins collected three groundballs and three draws as well as two caused turnovers.

For Bard, Dylan McDonald scored two second-half goals for the Raptors. Kaylynn Tran was busy in the Bard crease, making 16 saves on 33 shots on goal.
