Clarkson and SLU Finish in 1-1 Tie

Potsdam, NY – Chances in the final overtime minutes by each team were denied as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team and St. Lawrence finished in a 1-1 tie in Liberty League action Tuesday evening at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights remained unbeaten in their last three games, moving to 5-8-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence moved to 9-1-4 and 4-1-3 in league contests. Clarkson closes out the regular season against Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon.

St. Lawrence controlled the play in the first 10 minutes, nearly scoring in the fifth minute, but Emily Wade's header was saved by Clarkson's Elyse Green. After that, however, the two teams essentially played even and St. Lawrence did not get another chance on the Clarkson goal. The Golden Knights two shots on goal were good attempts, but both were from 25 yards out and did not strongly challenge St. Lawrence's Samantha Allen.

The second half saw a steadier stream of offense for both squads as the two teams combined for 11 corner kicks after none in the opening 45 minutes. The Golden Knights became just the second team to score a goal against the Saints in their last six contests, tallying when Kendall Cathcart scored her first collegiate goal. The freshman took the ball out side on the right side and lobbed a shot in that fooled Allen, floating in on the far side netting at the 71:37 mark to put Clarkson up 1-0.

Ten minutes later, St. Lawrence knotted the game up 1-1. Off a throw in, Julia Malhern went wide and dropped a shot in over Green's head on the far side of the goal, tying things up at 81:51.

Both teams had solid opportunities in the two extra sessions. Near the close of the first overtime, Camryn Careccia beat her defender on a touch and ripped a hard shot, but Allen dove to keep the game tied at 1-1. St. Lawrence's chance came in the waning seconds of the second overtime with Katie Clemmer shooting from the left side, but Green came up big to maintain the even score.

St. Lawrence held a small advantage in shots (17-15) and shots on goal (10-7) while nearly doubling up the Knights in corner kicks (9-5). Green made nine saves for the Knights and Allen was called upon for six saves.
