CU Men's Basketball Preview - vs. St. Lawrence (1/9/2018)

With seven straight home games the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team will look to make a move in the Liberty League standings over the next few weeks, starting on Tuesday when the Golden Knights take on St. Lawrence University.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The two teams have met up 190 times in the past century, with St. Lawrence winning 132 and Clarkson claiming a victory on 58 occasions. St. Lawrence swept the season series last year in two high-scoring games, 111-105 (in double overtime) and 93-87. Clarkson had won the previous seven contests between the two teams.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-7, 0-4 Liberty League): The Golden Knights haven't enjoyed a hot hand from the perimeter for the past few games, but Matt Higgins hasn't been part of the slump. The sophomore guard is averaging 16.1 points per game in 2017-18, including a run of 20.4 ppg over his last five. In that stretch, Higgins has made 19 3-pointers, burying at least four in four of the five contests. Clarkson still ranks first in the league in defensive field goal percentage (39.2%).

Key Stats for St. Lawrence (3-8, 1-3 Liberty League): The Saints are a youthful team that has been hit by injuries, most severely by the loss of all-star forward Riley Naclerio. St. Lawrence ranks last or second to last in the Liberty League in points allowed (84.4 ppg), defensive field goal percentage (46.4%), 3-point field goal defense (36.9%) and turnover margin (-3.64), while allowing 117 3-pointers in 11 games. Junior Ben Crawford has been a bright spot, averaging 16.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, figures that each rank sixth in the conference.
