CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - at St. Lawrence (4/1)

Knocked out of the Liberty League playoff hunt on the final day of the regular season in 2016, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will be looking to exact some revenge against St. Lawrence when the two teams play on Saturday in Canton, NY.

The Golden Knights enter the game with a record of 7-1 overall thanks to some lopsided affairs in the last 10 days, while St. Lawrence is 3-4 through seven contests. The Saints beat Clarkson 8-6 on April 30 last year, claiming the final spot in the conference playoffs with the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Knights. Though St. Lawrence has lost only once in 41 meetings against Clarkson, the match up has truly become a rivalry game in recent years. Since 2013, St. Lawrence's wins have all come by three goals or less, while Clarkson's win in 2015 was by just a single goal.

Thanks to its recent offensive outburst, the Golden Knights lead the Liberty League in scoring with 14.50 goals per game. Jaid Baytos is one of only three players in the league with 30 points so far and she ranks fifth in the conference with 3.75 points per game to go along with 10 draws and seven caused turnovers. Kate Dillon is second in the league in goals with 24 and has also produced 14 groundballs. Clarkson's freshmen had a big day on Wednesday against SUNY Canton and all pushed their way up the Golden Knights scoring boards. Katie Sergeant (20-1-21), Emma Andrews (7-7-14), Abby Collins (10-3-13) and Lexi Smith (7-1-8) each have shown promise in their first collegiate seasons. Junior Taylor Collins has produced across the board with 16 points (10 goals, 6 assists) and leads the team in groundballs (22), draws (20) and caused turnovers (10). Samantha Gladd has a 7.63 goals against average and a .419 save percentage for the Knights.

Though Kara Hurley leads St. Lawrence in scoring with 14 goals, the Saints have several players that can break out on offense. Rachel Bogosian ranks second on the team with 10 goals, but four more players have scored eight times for the Saints. Alexandra LaMotte (8-4-12), Kayla Schmalz (8-3-11), Julia Mitiguy (8-2-10) and Kierra Taussig (8-0-8) have each tallied regularly, and all have added to other spots on their stat lines. Most significantly, Taussig has reached double figures in groundballs (11), caused turnovers (11) and draw controls (15). Jacqueline Sovie also has 12 groundballs and eight caused turnovers. Two goalkeepers have split time in the Saints' crease. Cricket Wemyss has received most of the team's seven starts and amassed 240 minutes of playing time with an 11.25 goals against average and .423 save percentage, while Olga Lukas has spent 180 minutes in the crease with an 8.67 goals against average and .519 save percentage.
