CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - Florida Spring Trip (3/20-23)

Well rested and in warmer climes, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team won't have much time to take in the scenery in the first few days in Florida as the Golden Knights will play three games in a four-day stretch.

The Golden Knights (3-1) are scheduled to take on Frostburg State (4-4), Centre College (7-2) and Calvin College (1-3) from Monday through Thursday.

Clarkson last played on March 10th, improving to 3-1 with an 11-7 win over Utica. Just like last year, the Golden Knights only loss in its first four games came against Cortland State and the Green and Gold will look to come back with a similarly unblemished spring break mark. In their three wins, the Golden Knights allowed just six goals per game while producing 11 scores per contest. Senior Kate Dillon leads a balanced offense with 11 points on nine goals and two assists while sophomore Jaid Baytos has eight points on seven goals and an assist. Senior Ashley Flick also has seven points with four goals and three assists, while sisters Taylor Collins and Abby Collins have combined for nine goals and three assists. Taylor Collins has also produced 17 groundballs, nine draws and five caused turnovers while Abby Collins has eight draw controls and five additional caused turnovers. Defensively, Stephanie Scaia leads the team with seven caused turnovers and has also scooped up nine groundballs. Samantha Gladd is tied with Taylor Collins for the team lead with 17 groundballs and has achieved an 8.61 goals against average thus far.

Entering the week, Frostburg State has somehow only mustered a record of 4-4 despite averaging 15 goals per game, thanks in large part to three wins that came by double figures. Nikki Hallikas leads the team with 45 points on 25 goals and 20 assists and Morgan Cavey has also added in 34 points on 24 goals and 10 assists. Five other players have recorded double figures in points so far, with Emani Byrd doing the most damage all-around with 11 points, 24 groundballs, 23 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers. Haley Hines has also done well outside of the circle with 20 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. Dylan Teitelbaum has a save rate of 50.8% but is allowing 12.07 goals per game.

Centre College is more than halfway through its season and only has seven games remaining on the schedule. The Colonels are led by Hannah Bellamah's 54 points (37 goals, 17 assists), 47 groundballs, and 23 caused turnovers. Haden Gibbons has also added in 33 points on 24 goals and nine assists while also adding 22 groundballs, 16 draws and 17 caused turnovers. Ellen Resinger does an excellent job of getting the Colonels early possessions with 57 draw controls, and she also has 29 points (24 goals, five assists). Finally, Colleen Jackson also adds significantly to the offense with 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points. Natalie Marek has seen all 546 minutes in the Centre crease, making saves on 52.9% of the shots she has faced with an 8.13 goals against average.

Calvin College plays Centre the day before the Golden Knights do, but Clarkson and Calvin won't hook up until March 23rd. Calvin has two players with 10 goals through the first four games as Kelly Pepper and Emily Cefaratti have done the majority of the scoring for the Knights. Amanda Davio has also added in eight points with six goals and two assists. Madeline Baas leads the team with 26 draws and Jaimie Van De Burg has a team-high 12 groundballs. Ellis Chalfant is allowing 10.50 goals per game with a 31.1 save percentage.
